其地昔為荒墟、今則有人居處、集自列邦、聚貨財、豢牲畜、居其高處、我必攻之、刦掠其物、

昔斯地變為荒邱、今則有人居處、來自列邦、聚貨財、養牲畜、安居斯土、我攻伐之、攘奪其物、

昔荒蕪、今有人居處之地、其民集自列邦、養牲貿易、貿易或作獲財安居斯地、斯地原文作地之高處爾欲攻斯民、攘奪刧掠其物、

I will plunder and loot and turn my hand against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock and goods, living at the center of the land.”

I will rob those people. I’ll steal everything they have. Then I’ll turn my attention to the destroyed houses where people are living again. They have returned there from other nations. Now they are rich. They have plenty of livestock and all kinds of goods. They are living in Israel. It is the center of the earth.’

I will go to those formerly desolate cities that are now filled with people who have returned from exile in many nations. I will capture vast amounts of plunder, for the people are rich with livestock and other possessions now. They think the whole world revolves around them!’

Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: I am going to give the land of Egypt to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and he will carry off its wealth, seizing its spoil and taking its plunder. This will be his army’s compensation.

I will send him against a godless nation; I will command him to go against a people destined for my rage, to take spoils, to plunder, and to trample them down like clay in the streets.

After a long time you will be summoned. In the last years you will enter a land that has been restored from war and regathered from many peoples to the mountains of Israel, which had long been a ruin. They were brought out from the peoples, and all of them now live securely.

“ This is what the LORD of Armies says: In this desolate place— without people or animals — and in all its cities there will once more be a grazing land where shepherds may rest flocks.The flocks will again pass under the hands of the one who counts them in the cities of the hill country, the cities of the Judean foothills, the cities of the Negev, the land of Benjamin— the areas around Jerusalem and in Judah’s cities, says the LORD.

I will whistle and gather them because I have redeemed them; they will be as numerous as they once were.Though I sow them among the nations, they will remember me in the distant lands; they and their children will live and return.I will bring them back from the land of Egypt and gather them from Assyria. I will bring them to the land of Gilead and to Lebanon, but it will not be enough for them.

Then the angel of the LORD responded,“ How long, LORD of Armies, will you withhold mercy from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah that you have been angry with these seventy years?”

I will cut off the ruler from Ashdod, and the one who wields the scepter from Ashkelon. I will also turn my hand against Ekron, and the remainder of the Philistines will perish. The Lord GOD has spoken.

Nevertheless, all who devoured you will be devoured, and all your adversaries— all of them— will go off into exile. Those who plunder you will be plundered, and all who raid you will be raided.

“‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: On the day I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be inhabited, and the ruins will be rebuilt.The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of everyone who passes by.They will say,“ This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden. The cities that were once ruined, desolate, and demolished are now fortified and inhabited.”

Then Gaal spoke again,“ Look, troops are coming down from the central part of the land, and one unit is coming from the direction of the Diviners’ Oak.”

Sword, awake against my shepherd, against the man who is my associate— this is the declaration of the LORD of Armies. Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; I will turn my hand against the little ones.

Fields will be bought in this land about which you are saying,‘ It’s a desolation without people or animals; it has been handed over to the Chaldeans!’Fields will be purchased, the transaction written on a scroll and sealed, and witnesses will be called on in the land of Benjamin, in the areas surrounding Jerusalem, and in Judah’s cities— the cities of the hill country, the cities of the Judean foothills, and the cities of the Negev— because I will restore their fortunes.” This is the LORD’s declaration.

Therefore the Lord GOD of Armies, the Mighty One of Israel, declares:“ Ah, I will get even with my foes; I will take revenge against my enemies.I will turn my hand against you and will burn away your dross completely; I will remove all your impurities.

“ Proclaim further: This is what the LORD of Armies says: My cities will again overflow with prosperity; the LORD will once more comfort Zion and again choose Jerusalem.”
