Therefore thus says the Lord God: I swear that the nations that are all around you shall themselves suffer reproach.

所以我誓言要讓你們四圍的外族人也受羞辱。這是主耶和華說的。

所以主耶和華這樣說：我舉手起誓說：你們四圍的列國必親自擔當自己的羞辱。

故此主永恆主這麼說：我舉手來起誓說：你們四圍的外國人必定須自己擔受你們的羞辱。

主耶和華曰、我既舉手而言、爾四周之列邦、必負其辱、

主天主如是云、我發誓、爾四周之異邦人、必受辱蒙羞、

Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I swear with uplifted hand that the nations around you will also suffer scorn.

So the Lord and King says,“ I raise my hand and make a promise. I promise that the nations around you will also be laughed at.

Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I have taken a solemn oath that those nations will soon have their own shame to endure.

Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: I swear that the nations all around you will endure their own insults.

Therefore the Lord God says this:‘ I have sworn that the nations that are around you will certainly endure their insults themselves.

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:“ I have raised My hand in an oath that surely the nations that are around you shall bear their own shame.

therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I have sworn, saying, Surely the nations that are round about you, they shall bear their shame.

Therefore this is what the Lord God says: I swear that the nations all around you will endure their own insults.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I have lifted up mine hand, Surely the heathen that[ are] about you, they shall bear their shame.

So this is what the sovereign LORD says: I vow that the nations around you will endure insults as well.

Therefore the Lord Yahweh says:“ I have sworn,‘ Surely the nations that are around you will bear their shame.’

and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: On the day when I chose Israel, I swore to the offspring of the house of Jacob, making myself known to them in the land of Egypt; I swore to them, saying, I am the Lord your God.

And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heavenand swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and what is in it, the earth and what is in it, and the sea and what is in it, that there would be no more delay,

The word of the Lord came to me:“ Son of man, set your face toward the Ammonites and prophesy against them.Say to the Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God, Because you said,‘ Aha!’ over my sanctuary when it was profaned, and over the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and over the house of Judah when they went into exile,therefore behold, I am handing you over to the people of the East for a possession, and they shall set their encampments among you and make their dwellings in your midst. They shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk.I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels and Ammon a fold for flocks. Then you will know that I am the Lord.For thus says the Lord God: Because you have clapped your hands and stamped your feet and rejoiced with all the malice within your soul against the land of Israel,therefore, behold, I have stretched out my hand against you, and will hand you over as plunder to the nations. And I will cut you off from the peoples and will make you perish out of the countries; I will destroy you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.“ Thus says the Lord God: Because Moab and Seir said,‘ Behold, the house of Judah is like all the other nations,’therefore I will lay open the flank of Moab from the cities, from its cities on its frontier, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim.I will give it along with the Ammonites to the people of the East as a possession, that the Ammonites may be remembered no more among the nations,and I will execute judgments upon Moab. Then they will know that I am the Lord.“ Thus says the Lord God: Because Edom acted revengefully against the house of Judah and has grievously offended in taking vengeance on them,therefore thus says the Lord God, I will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off from it man and beast. And I will make it desolate; from Teman even to Dedan they shall fall by the sword.And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel, and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath, and they shall know my vengeance, declares the Lord God.“ Thus says the Lord God: Because the Philistines acted revengefully and took vengeance with malice of soul to destroy in never-ending enmity,therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites and destroy the rest of the seacoast.I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I lay my vengeance upon them.”

The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck down Gaza.“ Thus says the Lord: Behold, waters are rising out of the north, and shall become an overflowing torrent; they shall overflow the land and all that fills it, the city and those who dwell in it. Men shall cry out, and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels, the fathers look not back to their children, so feeble are their hands,because of the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remains. For the Lord is destroying the Philistines, the remnant of the coastland of Caphtor.Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon has perished. O remnant of their valley, how long will you gash yourselves?Ah, sword of the Lord! How long till you are quiet? Put yourself into your scabbard; rest and be still!How can it be quiet when the Lord has given it a charge? Against Ashkelon and against the seashore he has appointed it.”

For I lift up my hand to heaven and swear, As I live forever,

Gather together, yes, gather, O shameless nation,before the decree takes effect— before the day passes away like chaff— before there comes upon you the burning anger of the Lord, before there comes upon you the day of the anger of the Lord.Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the anger of the Lord.For Gaza shall be deserted, and Ashkelon shall become a desolation; Ashdod’s people shall be driven out at noon, and Ekron shall be uprooted.Woe to you inhabitants of the seacoast, you nation of the Cherethites! The word of the Lord is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines; and I will destroy you until no inhabitant is left.And you, O seacoast, shall be pastures, with meadows for shepherds and folds for flocks.The seacoast shall become the possession of the remnant of the house of Judah, on which they shall graze, and in the houses of Ashkelon they shall lie down at evening. For the Lord their God will be mindful of them and restore their fortunes.“ I have heard the taunts of Moab and the revilings of the Ammonites, how they have taunted my people and made boasts against their territory.Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,“ Moab shall become like Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a land possessed by nettles and salt pits, and a waste forever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the survivors of my nation shall possess them.”This shall be their lot in return for their pride, because they taunted and boasted against the people of the Lord of hosts.The Lord will be awesome against them; for he will famish all the gods of the earth, and to him shall bow down, each in its place, all the lands of the nations.You also, O Cushites, shall be slain by my sword.And he will stretch out his hand against the north and destroy Assyria, and he will make Nineveh a desolation, a dry waste like the desert.Herds shall lie down in her midst, all kinds of beasts; even the owl and the hedgehog shall lodge in her capitals; a voice shall hoot in the window; devastation will be on the threshold; for her cedar work will be laid bare.This is the exultant city that lived securely, that said in her heart,“ I am, and there is no one else.” What a desolation she has become, a lair for wild beasts! Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his fist.

behold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, declares the Lord, and for Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I will devote them to destruction, and make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting desolation.

Thus the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me:“ Take from my hand this cup of the wine of wrath, and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it.They shall drink and stagger and be crazed because of the sword that I am sending among them.”So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand, and made all the nations to whom the Lord sent me drink it:Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and officials, to make them a desolation and a waste, a hissing and a curse, as at this day;Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his officials, all his people,and all the mixed tribes among them; all the kings of the land of Uz and all the kings of the land of the Philistines( Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod);Edom, Moab, and the sons of Ammon;all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastland across the sea;Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who cut the corners of their hair;all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the mixed tribes who dwell in the desert;all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media;all the kings of the north, far and near, one after another, and all the kingdoms of the world that are on the face of the earth. And after them the king of Babylon shall drink.“ Then you shall say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink, be drunk and vomit, fall and rise no more, because of the sword that I am sending among you.’“ And if they refuse to accept the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts: You must drink!For behold, I begin to work disaster at the city that is called by my name, and shall you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, for I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth, declares the Lord of hosts.’

Moreover, I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land that I had given them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands,

The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.And he said:“ The Lord roars from Zion and utters his voice from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the top of Carmel withers.”Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have threshed Gilead with threshing sledges of iron.So I will send a fire upon the house of Hazael, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.I will break the gate-bar of Damascus, and cut off the inhabitants from the Valley of Aven, and him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Syria shall go into exile to Kir,” says the Lord.Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they carried into exile a whole people to deliver them up to Edom.So I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour her strongholds.I will cut off the inhabitants from Ashdod, and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon; I will turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,” says the Lord God.Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they delivered up a whole people to Edom, and did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.So I will send a fire upon the wall of Tyre, and it shall devour her strongholds.”Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because he pursued his brother with the sword and cast off all pity, and his anger tore perpetually, and he kept his wrath forever.So I will send a fire upon Teman, and it shall devour the strongholds of Bozrah.”Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of the Ammonites, and for four, I will not revoke the punishment, because they have ripped open pregnant women in Gilead, that they might enlarge their border.So I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah, and it shall devour her strongholds, with shouting on the day of battle, with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;and their king shall go into exile, he and his princes together,” says the Lord.
