therefore thus says the Lord God:“ Surely I have spoken in My burning jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave My land to themselves as a possession, with wholehearted joy and spiteful minds, in order to plunder its open country.”’

我耶和華曰、他邦之民、以東諸族、中心叵測、喜得我地、驅逐居民、我怒憤烈、將加譴責、

主天主如是云、我熱中如焚、震怒甚烈、以譴責彼未滅之異邦人、及以東全族、因心懷怨恨、怨恨或作欺藐奪我之地、歸己為業、驅逐居民、刧掠務盡、中心歡樂不勝、

this is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, for with glee and with malice in their hearts they made my land their own possession so that they might plunder its pastureland.’

So the Lord and King says,“ I am very angry with those nations. I have spoken against them and the whole land of Edom. They were very happy when they took over my land. Deep down inside them, they hated Israel. They wanted to take its grasslands.

therefore thus says the Lord God: Surely I have spoken in my hot jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave my land to themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, that they might make its pasturelands a prey.

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My jealous anger burns against these nations, especially Edom, because they have shown utter contempt for me by gleefully taking my land for themselves as plunder.

“‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: Certainly in my burning zeal I speak against the rest of the nations and all of Edom, who took my land as their own possession with wholehearted rejoicing and utter contempt so that its pastureland became plunder.

therefore the Lord God says this:“ Certainly in the fire of My jealousy I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who appropriated My land for themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and with contempt of soul, in order to make its pastureland plunder.”

therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land unto themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.

“ This is what the Lord God says: Certainly in My burning zeal I speak against the rest of the nations and all of Edom, who took My land as their own possession with wholehearted rejoicing and utter contempt so that its pastureland became plunder.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all[ their] heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey.

therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: Surely I have spoken in the fire of my zeal against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who with great joy and utter contempt have made my land their property and prey, because of its pasture.’

therefore the Lord Yahweh says:“ Surely in the fire of my jealousy I have spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land to themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.”’

Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; When I fall, I will arise; When I sit in darkness, The Lord will be a light to me.

therefore prophesy, and say,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Because they made you desolate and swallowed you up on every side, so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations, and you are taken up by the lips of talkers and slandered by the people”—

For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken:‘ Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel,

I am exceedingly angry with the nations at ease; For I was a little angry, And they helped— but with evil intent.”

Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom The day of Jerusalem, Who said,“ Raze it, raze it, To its very foundation!”

For thus says the Lord God of Israel to me:“ Take this wine cup of fury from My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it.And they will drink and stagger and go mad because of the sword that I will send among them.”Then I took the cup from the LORD’s hand, and made all the nations drink, to whom the Lord had sent me:Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, its kings and its princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse, as it is this day;Pharaoh king of Egypt, his servants, his princes, and all his people;all the mixed multitude, all the kings of the land of Uz, all the kings of the land of the Philistines( namely, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod);Edom, Moab, and the people of Ammon;all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastlands which are across the sea;Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who are in the farthest corners;all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the mixed multitude who dwell in the desert;all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes;all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world which are on the face of the earth. Also the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.“ Therefore you shall say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel:“ Drink, be drunk, and vomit! Fall and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.”’And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from your hand to drink, then you shall say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ You shall certainly drink!For behold, I begin to bring calamity on the city which is called by My name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished, for I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth,” says the Lord of hosts.’

For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

They have said,“ Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, That the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”For they have consulted together with one consent; They form a confederacy against You:The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites; Moab and the Hagrites;Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;Assyria also has joined with them; They have helped the children of Lot. SelahDeal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon,Who perished at En Dor, Who became as refuse on the earth.Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, Yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,Who said,“ Let us take for ourselves The pastures of God for a possession.”

behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,’ says the Lord,‘ and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, and against these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying,“ Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it,and say to it,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Behold, O Mount Seir, I am against you; I will stretch out My hand against you, And make you most desolate;I shall lay your cities waste, And you shall be desolate. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.“ Because you have had an ancient hatred, and have shed the blood of the children of Israel by the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, when their iniquity came to an end,therefore, as I live,” says the Lord GOD,“ I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; since you have not hated blood, therefore blood shall pursue you.Thus I will make Mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it the one who leaves and the one who returns.And I will fill its mountains with the slain; on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those who are slain by the sword shall fall.I will make you perpetually desolate, and your cities shall be uninhabited; then you shall know that I am the Lord.“ Because you have said,‘ These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess them,’ although the Lord was there,therefore, as I live,” says the Lord GOD,“ I will do according to your anger and according to the envy which you showed in your hatred against them; and I will make Myself known among them when I judge you.Then you shall know that I am the Lord. I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying,‘ They are desolate; they are given to us to consume.’Thus with your mouth you have boasted against Me and multiplied your words against Me; I have heard them.”‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ The whole earth will rejoice when I make you desolate.As you rejoiced because the inheritance of the house of Israel was desolate, so I will do to you; you shall be desolate, O Mount Seir, as well as all of Edom— all of it! Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”’

He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker; He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.

“ Therefore wait for Me,” says the Lord,“ Until the day I rise up for plunder; My determination is to gather the nations To My assembly of kingdoms, To pour on them My indignation, All my fierce anger; All the earth shall be devoured With the fire of My jealousy.

“ Because you were glad, because you rejoiced, You destroyers of My heritage, Because you have grown fat like a heifer threshing grain, And you bellow like bulls,

Thus says the Lord:“ For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because he pursued his brother with the sword, And cast off all pity; His anger tore perpetually, And he kept his wrath forever.But I will send a fire upon Teman, Which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.”

Against the Ammonites. Thus says the Lord:“ Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Why then does Milcom inherit Gad, And his people dwell in its cities?

Who is this who comes from Edom, With dyed garments from Bozrah, This One who is glorious in His apparel, Traveling in the greatness of His strength?—“ I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.”Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress?“ I have trodden the winepress alone, And from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, And trampled them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, And I have stained all My robes.For the day of vengeance is in My heart, And the year of My redeemed has come.I looked, but there was no one to help, And I wondered That there was no one to uphold; Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; And My own fury, it sustained Me.I have trodden down the peoples in My anger, Made them drunk in My fury, And brought down their strength to the earth.”

“ I have loved you,” says the Lord.“ Yet you say,‘ In what way have You loved us?’ Was not Esau Jacob’s brother?” Says the Lord.“ Yet Jacob I have loved;But Esau I have hated, And laid waste his mountains and his heritage For the jackals of the wilderness.”Even though Edom has said,“ We have been impoverished, But we will return and build the desolate places,” Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ They may build, but I will throw down; They shall be called the Territory of Wickedness, And the people against whom the Lord will have indignation forever.

The vision of Obadiah. Thus says the Lord GOD concerning Edom( We have heard a report from the Lord, And a messenger has been sent among the nations, saying,“ Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle”):“ Behold, I will make you small among the nations; You shall be greatly despised.The pride of your heart has deceived you, You who dwell in the clefts of the rock, Whose habitation is high; You who say in your heart,‘ Who will bring me down to the ground?’Though you ascend as high as the eagle, And though you set your nest among the stars, From there I will bring you down,” says the Lord.“ If thieves had come to you, If robbers by night— Oh, how you will be cut off!— Would they not have stolen till they had enough? If grape-gatherers had come to you, Would they not have left some gleanings?“ Oh, how Esau shall be searched out! How his hidden treasures shall be sought after!All the men in your confederacy Shall force you to the border; The men at peace with you Shall deceive you and prevail against you. Those who eat your bread shall lay a trap for you. No one is aware of it.“ Will I not in that day,” says the Lord,“ Even destroy the wise men from Edom, And understanding from the mountains of Esau?Then your mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, To the end that everyone from the mountains of Esau May be cut off by slaughter.

Come near, you nations, to hear; And heed, you people! Let the earth hear, and all that is in it, The world and all things that come forth from it.For the indignation of the Lord is against all nations, And His fury against all their armies; He has utterly destroyed them, He has given them over to the slaughter.Also their slain shall be thrown out; Their stench shall rise from their corpses, And the mountains shall be melted with their blood.All the host of heaven shall be dissolved, And the heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll; All their host shall fall down As the leaf falls from the vine, And as fruit falling from a fig tree.“ For My sword shall be bathed in heaven; Indeed it shall come down on Edom, And on the people of My curse, for judgment.The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, It is made overflowing with fatness, With the blood of lambs and goats, With the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the Lord has a sacrifice in Bozrah, And a great slaughter in the land of Edom.The wild oxen shall come down with them, And the young bulls with the mighty bulls; Their land shall be soaked with blood, And their dust saturated with fatness.”For it is the day of the LORD’s vengeance, The year of recompense for the cause of Zion.Its streams shall be turned into pitch, And its dust into brimstone; Its land shall become burning pitch.It shall not be quenched night or day; Its smoke shall ascend forever. From generation to generation it shall lie waste; No one shall pass through it forever and ever.But the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it, Also the owl and the raven shall dwell in it. And He shall stretch out over it The line of confusion and the stones of emptiness.They shall call its nobles to the kingdom, But none shall be there, and all its princes shall be nothing.And thorns shall come up in its palaces, Nettles and brambles in its fortresses; It shall be a habitation of jackals, A courtyard for ostriches.The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the jackals, And the wild goat shall bleat to its companion; Also the night creature shall rest there, And find for herself a place of rest.There the arrow snake shall make her nest and lay eggs And hatch, and gather them under her shadow; There also shall the hawks be gathered, Every one with her mate.“ Search from the book of the Lord, and read: Not one of these shall fail; Not one shall lack her mate. For My mouth has commanded it, and His Spirit has gathered them.He has cast the lot for them, And His hand has divided it among them with a measuring line. They shall possess it forever; From generation to generation they shall dwell in it.”

For behold, the Lord will come with fire And with His chariots, like a whirlwind, To render His anger with fury, And His rebuke with flames of fire.For by fire and by His sword The Lord will judge all flesh; And the slain of the Lord shall be many.

Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, You who dwell in the land of Uz! The cup shall also pass over to you And you shall become drunk and make yourself naked.

“ I have heard the reproach of Moab, And the insults of the people of Ammon, With which they have reproached My people, And made arrogant threats against their borders.Therefore, as I live,” Says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,“ Surely Moab shall be like Sodom, And the people of Ammon like Gomorrah— Overrun with weeds and saltpits, And a perpetual desolation. The residue of My people shall plunder them, And the remnant of My people shall possess them.”This they shall have for their pride, Because they have reproached and made arrogant threats Against the people of the Lord of hosts.

Against Edom. Thus says the Lord of hosts:“ Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan! For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, The time that I will punish him.If grape-gatherers came to you, Would they not leave some gleaning grapes? If thieves by night, Would they not destroy until they have enough?But I have made Esau bare; I have uncovered his secret places, And he shall not be able to hide himself. His descendants are plundered, His brethren and his neighbors, And he is no more.Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; And let your widows trust in Me.”For thus says the Lord:“ Behold, those whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunk. And are you the one who will altogether go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink of it.For I have sworn by Myself,” says the Lord,“ that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse. And all its cities shall be perpetual wastes.”I have heard a message from the Lord, And an ambassador has been sent to the nations:“ Gather together, come against her, And rise up to battle!“ For indeed, I will make you small among nations, Despised among men.Your fierceness has deceived you, The pride of your heart, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, Who hold the height of the hill! Though you make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there,” says the Lord.“ Edom also shall be an astonishment; Everyone who goes by it will be astonished And will hiss at all its plagues.As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah And their neighbors,” says the Lord,“ No one shall remain there, Nor shall a son of man dwell in it.“ Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the floodplain of the Jordan Against the dwelling place of the strong; But I will suddenly make him run away from her. And who is a chosen man that I may appoint over her? For who is like Me? Who will arraign Me? And who is that shepherd Who will withstand Me?”Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord that He has taken against Edom, And His purposes that He has proposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out; Surely He shall make their dwelling places desolate with them.The earth shakes at the noise of their fall; At the cry its noise is heard at the Red Sea.Behold, He shall come up and fly like the eagle, And spread His wings over Bozrah; The heart of the mighty men of Edom in that day shall be Like the heart of a woman in birth pangs.

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;Lest the Lord see it, and it displease Him, And He turn away His wrath from him.

“ But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother In the day of his captivity; Nor should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah In the day of their destruction; Nor should you have spoken proudly In the day of distress.

‘ Thus says the Lord God:“ Because Moab and Seir say,‘ Look! The house of Judah is like all the nations,’therefore, behold, I will clear the territory of Moab of cities, of the cities on its frontier, the glory of the country, Beth Jeshimoth, Baal Meon, and Kirjathaim.To the men of the East I will give it as a possession, together with the Ammonites, that the Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations.And I will execute judgments upon Moab, and they shall know that I am the Lord.”‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Because of what Edom did against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended by avenging itself on them,”therefore thus says the Lord GOD:“ I will also stretch out My hand against Edom, cut off man and beast from it, and make it desolate from Teman; Dedan shall fall by the sword.I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel, that they may do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance,” says the Lord GOD.‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Because the Philistines dealt vengefully and took vengeance with a spiteful heart, to destroy because of the old hatred,”
