Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all[ their] heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey.

我耶和華曰、他邦之民、以東諸族、中心叵測、喜得我地、驅逐居民、我怒憤烈、將加譴責、

主天主如是云、我熱中如焚、震怒甚烈、以譴責彼未滅之異邦人、及以東全族、因心懷怨恨、怨恨或作欺藐奪我之地、歸己為業、驅逐居民、刧掠務盡、中心歡樂不勝、

this is what the Sovereign Lord says: In my burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, for with glee and with malice in their hearts they made my land their own possession so that they might plunder its pastureland.’

So the Lord and King says,“ I am very angry with those nations. I have spoken against them and the whole land of Edom. They were very happy when they took over my land. Deep down inside them, they hated Israel. They wanted to take its grasslands.

therefore thus says the Lord God: Surely I have spoken in my hot jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave my land to themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, that they might make its pasturelands a prey.

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My jealous anger burns against these nations, especially Edom, because they have shown utter contempt for me by gleefully taking my land for themselves as plunder.

“‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: Certainly in my burning zeal I speak against the rest of the nations and all of Edom, who took my land as their own possession with wholehearted rejoicing and utter contempt so that its pastureland became plunder.

therefore the Lord God says this:“ Certainly in the fire of My jealousy I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who appropriated My land for themselves as a possession with wholehearted joy and with contempt of soul, in order to make its pastureland plunder.”

therefore thus says the Lord God:“ Surely I have spoken in My burning jealousy against the rest of the nations and against all Edom, who gave My land to themselves as a possession, with wholehearted joy and spiteful minds, in order to plunder its open country.”’

therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land unto themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.

“ This is what the Lord God says: Certainly in My burning zeal I speak against the rest of the nations and all of Edom, who took My land as their own possession with wholehearted rejoicing and utter contempt so that its pastureland became plunder.

therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: Surely I have spoken in the fire of my zeal against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who with great joy and utter contempt have made my land their property and prey, because of its pasture.’

therefore the Lord Yahweh says:“ Surely in the fire of my jealousy I have spoken against the residue of the nations, and against all Edom, that have appointed my land to themselves for a possession with the joy of all their heart, with despite of soul, to cast it out for a prey.”’

Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD[ shall be] a light unto me.

Therefore prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they have made[ you] desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the heathen, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and[ are] an infamy of the people:

For in my jealousy[ and] in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;

And I am very sore displeased with the heathen[ that are] at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Rase[ it], rase[ it, even] to the foundation thereof.

For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.Then took I the cup at the LORD’S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:[ To wit], Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as[ it is] this day;Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people;And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon,And all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which[ are] beyond the sea,Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all[ that are] in the utmost corners,And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert,And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes,And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which[ are] upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.

For the LORD thy God[ is] a consuming fire,[ even] a jealous God.

They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from[ being] a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.Do unto them as[ unto] the Midianites; as[ to] Sisera, as[ to] Jabin, at the brook of Kison:[ Which] perished at Endor: they became[ as] dung for the earth.Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.

Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it,And say unto it, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount Seir, I[ am] against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate.I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I[ am] the LORD.Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed[ the blood of] the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time[ that their] iniquity[ had] an end:Therefore,[ as] I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee.Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth.And I will fill his mountains with his slain[ men]: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword.I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I[ am] the LORD.Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there:Therefore,[ as] I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee.And thou shalt know that I[ am] the LORD,[ and that] I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume.Thus with your mouth ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard[ them].Thus saith the Lord GOD; When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate.As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea,[ even] all of it: and they shall know that I[ am] the LORD.

Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker:[ and] he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination[ is] to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation,[ even] all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;

Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn away[ the punishment] thereof; because he did pursue his brother with the sword, and did cast off all pity, and his anger did tear perpetually, and he kept his wrath for ever:But I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.

Concerning the Ammonites, thus saith the LORD; Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why[ then] doth their king inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?

Who[ is] this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this[ that is] glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.Wherefore[ art thou] red in thine apparel, and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people[ there was] none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.For the day of vengeance[ is] in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.And I looked, and[ there was] none to help; and I wondered that[ there was] none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me; and my fury, it upheld me.And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us?[ Was] not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever.

The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation[ is] high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?Though thou exalt[ thyself] as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night,( how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave[ some] grapes?How are[ the things] of Esau searched out![ how] are his hidden things sought up!All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee[ even] to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee,[ and] prevailed against thee;[ they that eat] thy bread have laid a wound under thee:[ there is] none understanding in him.Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise[ men] out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?And thy mighty[ men], O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.

Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.For the indignation of the LORD[ is] upon all nations, and[ his] fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling[ fig] from the fig tree.For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness,[ and] with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.For[ it is] the day of the LORD’S vengeance,[ and] the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none[ shall be] there, and all her princes shall be nothing.And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons,[ and] a court for owls.The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.

For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.

Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.

I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified[ themselves] against their border.Therefore[ as] I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah,[ even] the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified[ themselves] against the people of the LORD of hosts.

Concerning Edom, thus saith the LORD of hosts;[ Is] wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?Flee ye, turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time[ that] I will visit him.If grapegatherers come to thee, would they not leave[ some] gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, they will destroy till they have enough.But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he[ is] not.Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve[ them] alive; and let thy widows trust in me.For thus saith the LORD; Behold, they whose judgment[ was] not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and[ art] thou he[ that] shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink[ of it].For I have sworn by myself, saith the LORD, that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.I have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen,[ saying], Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.For, lo, I will make thee small among the heathen,[ and] despised among men.Thy terribleness hath deceived thee,[ and] the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the LORD.Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour[ cities] thereof, saith the LORD, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who[ is] a chosen[ man, that] I may appoint over her? for who[ is] like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who[ is] that shepherd that will stand before me?Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitations desolate with them.The earth is moved at the noise of their fall, at the cry the noise thereof was heard in the Red sea.Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:Lest the LORD see[ it], and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Moab and Seir do say, Behold, the house of Judah[ is] like unto all the heathen;Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities[ which are] on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Bethjeshimoth, Baalmeon, and Kiriathaim,Unto the men of the east with the Ammonites, and will give them in possession, that the Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations.And I will execute judgments upon Moab; and they shall know that I[ am] the LORD.Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and hath greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them;Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also stretch out mine hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword.And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to mine anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord GOD.Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a despiteful heart, to destroy[ it] for the old hatred;
