「你們中間誰有一百隻羊，失去其中的一隻，不把這九十九隻留在曠野，去找那失去的羊，直到找着呢？找到了，他就歡歡喜喜地把羊扛在肩上。他回到家裏，請朋友和鄰舍來，對他們說：『你們和我一同歡喜吧，我失去的羊已經找到了！』

因為日子近了，耶和華的日子臨近了；那是密雲之日，是列國受罰之期。

列國啊，要聽耶和華的話，要在遠方的海島傳揚，說：「趕散以色列的必召集他，看守他，如牧人看守羊羣。」

那日是憤怒的日子，急難困苦的日子，荒廢淒涼的日子，黑暗幽冥的日子，烏雲密佈的日子，

你們當中有誰是敬畏耶和華，聽從他僕人的話語，卻行在黑暗中，沒有亮光的，當倚靠耶和華的名，仰賴自己的神。

當耶和華－你們的神尚未使黑暗來臨，在昏暗的山上你們的腳未絆跌以前，要將榮耀歸給他。你們盼望光明，他卻使光明變為死蔭，成為幽暗。

想望耶和華日子的人有禍了！為甚麼你們要耶和華的日子呢？那是黑暗沒有光明的日子，好像人躲避獅子卻遇見熊；進房屋以手靠牆，卻被蛇咬。耶和華的日子豈不是黑暗沒有光明，幽暗毫無光輝嗎？

在天上，我要顯出奇事，在地下，我要顯出神蹟，有血，有火，有煙霧。太陽要變為黑暗，月亮要變為血，這都在主大而光榮的日子未到以前。那時，凡求告主名的都必得救。』

你們要在錫安吹角，在我的聖山發出警報。這地所有的居民要發顫，因為耶和華的日子快到，已經臨近了。那是黑暗、陰森的日子，是密雲、烏黑的日子，如同黎明籠罩山嶺。有一隊蝗蟲，又大又強，自古以來沒有像這樣的，以後直到萬代也必沒有。牠們前面有火吞噬，後面有火焰燒盡。牠們未到以前，地如伊甸園，過去以後，卻成了荒涼的曠野，沒有一樣能躲避牠們。

大衛對掃羅說：「你僕人為父親放羊，有時獅子來了，有時熊來了，從羣中抓走一隻羔羊。我就追趕牠，擊打牠，把羔羊從牠口中救出來。牠起來攻擊我，我就揪牠的鬍子，打死牠。
