“你們中間誰有一百隻羊，失去一隻，不把九十九隻留下在曠野，去尋找那失落的，直到找著呢？既找著了，就歡歡喜喜地放在肩上，回到家裡，請朋友鄰舍來，對他們說：‘請大家和我一同歡樂，因為我失去的羊已經找到了！’

因為那一天臨近了，耶和華的日子臨近了，就是密雲的日子，列國受罰的時候。

“列國啊！你們要聽耶和華的話，要在遠方的海島傳揚，說：‘那趕散以色列的神，必再招集他們；必看守他們，像牧人看守自己的羊群一樣。’

那日是忿怒的日子，是困苦艱難的日子，是荒廢淒涼的日子，是黑暗幽冥的日子，是密雲漆黑的日子，

你們中間誰是敬畏耶和華，聽從他僕人的聲音的？誰是行在黑暗中，沒有亮光的呢？他該倚靠耶和華的名，依賴他的神。

耶和華你們的神還沒有使黑暗臨到以前，你們的腳還沒有在昏暗的山上絆倒之前，你們要把榮耀歸給他。你們期待光明，他卻把光明變為死蔭，使光明變成黝黑。

渴望耶和華日子來臨的人，你們有禍了！耶和華的日子對你們有甚麼好處呢？那日是黑暗，沒有光明的日子。那日就像一個人避過了獅子，卻遇上了熊；回到家裡，手靠在牆上，卻被蛇咬。耶和華的日子不是黑暗，沒有光明，只有幽暗，全無光輝嗎？

我要在天上顯出奇事，在地上顯出神蹟，有血、有火、有煙霧；太陽將變為黑暗，月亮將變為血紅，在主偉大顯赫的日子臨到以前，這一切都要發生。那時，凡求告主名的，都必得救。’

你們要在錫安吹號，並在我的聖山發出警訊，讓國中所有的居民都戰慄，因為耶和華的日子快到，必然臨近了。那日是黑暗幽冥的日子，是密雲漆黑的日子。有一隊眾多強盛的民來到，好像晨光滿布群山；這樣的事從前沒有發生過，以後直到萬代，也不會發生。在他們前面有吞滅的火，在他們後面有燃燒的火燄；他們未到以前，大地像伊甸園，他們過去以後，大地成了荒涼的曠野，沒有一樣能逃避他們的。

大衛對掃羅說：“你僕人是為父親放羊的，有時獅子或熊來了，從羊群中抓去一隻小羊，我就出去追趕牠，擊打牠，從牠的嘴裡把小羊救出來。如果牠起來攻擊我，我就揪住牠的鬍鬚，擊打牠，把牠殺死。
