「如果你們有人有一百隻羊，走失了一隻，難道他不暫時把那九十九隻留在草場上，去找那隻迷失的羊，一直到找著為止嗎？他找到後，會歡歡喜喜地把那隻羊扛回家，並邀來朋友鄰居，說，『我走失的羊找到了，來和我一同慶祝吧！』

因為日子近了，耶和華的日子近了，那是烏雲密佈的日子，列國淪亡的時候。

「列國啊，你們要聽耶和華的話，要在遠方的海島宣揚，『祂從前驅散以色列人，如今必再聚集、保護他們，好像牧人看守自己的羊群一樣。』

那是降烈怒的日子，是困苦艱難的日子，是摧殘毀壞的日子，是黑暗幽冥的日子，是陰霾密佈的日子，

你們中間誰敬畏耶和華，聽從祂僕人的話？行在黑暗中、沒有光的人要信靠耶和華的名，仰賴自己的上帝。

趁著你們的上帝耶和華還未使黑暗來臨，你們還未在漆黑的山上絆倒，要把榮耀歸給祂。否則，祂必使你們期望的光明變為幽冥和黑暗。

盼望耶和華的日子到來的人有禍了！你們為什麼盼望耶和華的日子呢？那日將帶來黑暗，而非光明。你們的光景將好像人逃避獅子，卻遇上了熊，逃回家裡，手扶牆壁，又被蛇咬。耶和華的日子將充滿黑暗，毫無光明，一片漆黑，毫無亮光。

在天上，我要顯異兆；在地上，我要行神蹟，有血、有火、有濃煙。太陽要變得昏暗，月亮要變得血紅。這都要發生在主偉大榮耀的日子來臨以前。那時，凡求告主名的，都必得救。』

你們要在錫安吹響號角，在我的聖山上發出警訊，地上的居民都要戰抖，因為耶和華的日子將要來臨，已經近了。那將是烏雲密佈、天昏地暗的日子。來了一支空前絕後、強盛無比的蝗蟲大軍，牠們像曙光一樣佈滿山頭。牠們的前隊如火燎原，後隊如熊熊烈焰。牠們未到以前，大地美得像伊甸園；牠們過去之後，大地變成一片荒場，地上的一切都逃不過這一場浩劫。

大衛說：「我一直替父親放羊，有時候獅子或熊會從羊群中叼走羊，我會去追打牠，把羊從牠口中救出來。如果牠起來攻擊我，我就揪著牠的鬍子把牠打死。
