但那守望者若見刀劍臨到，而不吹號角，以致人民沒有受警告，而刀劍遂來除滅他們中間任何人的性命，那麼這人雖因他自己的罪孽而被除滅，然而流他血的罪我卻要從守望者手裏追討。

倘若守望的人见刀剑临到，不吹角，以致民不受警戒，刀剑来杀了他们中间的一个人，他虽然死在罪孽之中，我却要向守望的人讨他丧命的罪。

如戍卒見刃將至、不吹角以警民、刃至而殺人、其人死於其罪、而我必索其血於戍卒、

如戍卒見刃將至、不吹角以警眾、刃至而殺人、則彼死於罪愆、而戍卒亦遭刑罰。

如守望者見刃將至、不吹角、致民不警備、刃至殺其中一人、則彼死於罪中、而其喪命之罪、我必討問於守望者、

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’

But suppose the guard sees the enemies coming. And he does not blow the trumpet to warn the people. The enemies come and kill one of them. Then their life has been taken away from them because they sinned. But I will hold the guard responsible for their death.’

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.

But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their captivity. They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman responsible for their deaths.’

However, suppose the watchman sees the sword coming but doesn’t blow the ram’s horn, so that the people aren’t warned, and the sword comes and takes away their lives. Then they have been taken away because of their iniquity, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.’

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the horn and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away for his wrongdoing; but I will require his blood from the watchman’s hand.’

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’

But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned, and the sword come, and take any person from among them; he is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

何況惡人在義人家裏將他殺在床上，我現在哪有不從你們手裏討流他血的罪，而將你們從地上肅清呢？』

我若指着惡人說：「你必定死」，你若不警告他，不告訴惡人而警告他離開他惡的行徑，好救活他自己，那這惡人就必死在他的罪孽中，流他血的罪呢、我卻要從你手裏追討。倘若你警告了惡人，他仍不回轉離開他的惡，不離開他惡的行徑，那麼這人就必死在他的罪孽中，而你呢、卻可以救你自己的性命。義人呢，義人若轉離他的義而行不公道的事，當我將絆腳物放在他面前時，他就必死；因你沒有警告他，他就死在他的罪中，他素來所行的義遂不被記念，但流他血的罪、我卻要從你手裏追討。

惟獨犯罪的人、他自己必死亡；兒子必不擔當父親的罪罰，父親也不擔當兒子的罪罰；義人的義果必歸他自己，惡人的惡報也必歸他自己。

我若指着惡人說：「你必定死」，你若不告訴惡人而警告他離開他的行徑，那麼這惡人就必死在他的罪孽中，而流他血的罪呢、我卻要從你手裏追討。倘若你警告了惡人回轉離開他的行徑，他仍不回轉離開他的行徑，那麼這人就必死在他的罪孽中，而你呢、卻可以救你自己的性命。

如便回答他們說：『我不是對你們說過麼？我說：「不要得罪那孩子」，你們卻不肯聽；看哪，流他血的罪正向我們追討呢！』

實在的，流你們的血、流你們性命之血的罪，我總要討罰的；我要向各樣走獸討罰：向人的手、向每一個人兄弟的手、討罰那害人性命的罪。

主永恆主這麼說：看哪，我跟牧民者為敵；我必向他們手裏追討我的羊，使他們停止牧養我羊的責任；牧人就不得以再牧養自己。我必搶救我的羊脫離他們的口，不再做他們的食物。

義人若轉離他的義行，而行不公道的事，照惡人所行一切可厭惡之事而行，他哪能活着呢？他所行的一切義都不被記住；他必因他所陰謀的不忠實和所犯的罪而死於其中。

於是耶穌又對他們說：『我要去了；你們必尋求我，並且必死在你們的罪中；我所去的地方、你們不能到。』猶太人就說：『他說「我所去的地方、你們不能到」，難道他要自殺麼？』耶穌對他們說：『你們是屬下的，我是屬上的；你們是屬這世界的，我不是屬這世界的。所以我對你們說了，你們必死在你們的罪中。因為你們若不信我永在，你們就必死在你們的罪中。』

他的守望人是瞎眼的，都沒有知識；他們都是啞巴狗，不能叫喚；只是躺臥着，瞇瞇地睡，貪愛打盹。這些狗的食慾極強，不知飽足；嘿，這種人竟是牧人！不知聰明為何物！他們都偏向自行的路，各從各方專求自己的利益。

惡人必在他所行的壞事上被推倒；義人必因他的純全而得避難。
