“ Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchman,

“人子啊，你要告诉你的同胞，‘我若使战争降临某地，那地方的百姓就应选一人做守望者。

“人子啊！你要告诉你本国的人，说：‘我使刀剑临到一地，那地的人民从他们中间选出一个人，作他们的守望者；

「人子啊，你要告訴本國的子民說：我使刀劍臨到哪一國，那一國的民從他們中間選立一人為守望的。

『人子啊，你要向你本國的子民講話，對他們說：我若使刀劍攻擊哪一地，而那一地的人民從他們範圍內選取了一個人，立為他們的守望者；

人子歟、謂爾民族曰、我若使刃臨於一邦、是邦之民、簡其中一人、立為戍卒、

人子、當告民曰、如我於邦國、降以鋒刃之災、則民簡境內一人、置為戍卒、

人子、當言與爾民、告之曰、如我使一國遭兵刃之災、其國之民、於其中選一人、置為守望者、

“ Son of man, give your people this message:‘ When I bring an army against a country, the people of that land choose one of their own to be a watchman.

“ Son of man, speak to your people and tell them,‘ Suppose I bring the sword against a land, and the people of that land select a man from among them, appointing him as their watchman.

“ Son of man, speak to the sons of your people and say to them,‘ If I bring a sword upon a land, and the people of the land take one man from among them and make him their watchman,

“ Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them:‘ When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman,

Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and set him for their watchman;

“ Son of man, speak to your people and tell them: Suppose I bring the sword against a land, and the people of that land select a man from among them, appointing him as their watchman,

Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:

“ Son of man, speak to your people, and say to them,‘ Suppose I bring a sword against the land, and the people of the land take one man from their borders and make him their watchman.

“ Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and tell them,‘ When I bring the sword on a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and set him for their watchman;

And go to the exiles, to your people, and speak to them and say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord God,’ whether they hear or refuse to hear.”

“ Yet your people say,‘ The way of the Lord is not just,’ when it is their own way that is not just.

“ As for you, son of man, your people who talk together about you by the walls and at the doors of the houses, say to one another, each to his brother,‘ Come, and hear what the word is that comes from the Lord.’

“ Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who stands next to me,” declares the Lord of hosts.“ Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; I will turn my hand against the little ones.

But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord God.’ He who will hear, let him hear; and he who will refuse to hear, let him refuse, for they are a rebellious house.

“ Or if I bring a sword upon that land and say, Let a sword pass through the land, and I cut off from it man and beast,

Ah, sword of the Lord! How long till you are quiet? Put yourself into your scabbard; rest and be still!How can it be quiet when the Lord has given it a charge? Against Ashkelon and against the seashore he has appointed it.”

The prophet is the watchman of Ephraim with my God; yet a fowler’s snare is on all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.

Upon all the bare heights in the desert destroyers have come, for the sword of the Lord devours from one end of the land to the other; no flesh has peace.

You have feared the sword, and I will bring the sword upon you, declares the Lord God.

“ Son of man, prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord, say:“ A sword, a sword is sharpened and also polished,sharpened for slaughter, polished to flash like lightning!( Or shall we rejoice? You have despised the rod, my son, with everything of wood.)So the sword is given to be polished, that it may be grasped in the hand. It is sharpened and polished to be given into the hand of the slayer.Cry out and wail, son of man, for it is against my people. It is against all the princes of Israel. They are delivered over to the sword with my people. Strike therefore upon your thigh.For it will not be a testing— what could it do if you despise the rod?” declares the Lord God.“ As for you, son of man, prophesy. Clap your hands and let the sword come down twice, yes, three times, the sword for those to be slain. It is the sword for the great slaughter, which surrounds them,that their hearts may melt, and many stumble. At all their gates I have given the glittering sword. Ah, it is made like lightning; it is taken up for slaughter.Cut sharply to the right; set yourself to the left, wherever your face is directed.

“ For thus says the Lord God: How much more when I send upon Jerusalem my four disastrous acts of judgment, sword, famine, wild beasts, and pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast!

“ So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me.

Now David was sitting between the two gates, and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate by the wall, and when he lifted up his eyes and looked, he saw a man running alone.The watchman called out and told the king. And the king said,“ If he is alone, there is news in his mouth.” And he drew nearer and nearer.The watchman saw another man running. And the watchman called to the gate and said,“ See, another man running alone!” The king said,“ He also brings news.”The watchman said,“ I think the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.” And the king said,“ He is a good man and comes with good news.”

And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall execute vengeance for the covenant. And if you gather within your cities, I will send pestilence among you, and you shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

For thus the Lord said to me:“ Go, set a watchman; let him announce what he sees.When he sees riders, horsemen in pairs, riders on donkeys, riders on camels, let him listen diligently, very diligently.”Then he who saw cried out:“ Upon a watchtower I stand, O Lord, continually by day, and at my post I am stationed whole nights.And behold, here come riders, horsemen in pairs!” And he answered,“ Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the carved images of her gods he has shattered to the ground.”

The clamor will resound to the ends of the earth, for the Lord has an indictment against the nations; he is entering into judgment with all flesh, and the wicked he will put to the sword, declares the Lord.’

On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest,

“ And you, son of man, say to your people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him when he transgresses, and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall by it when he turns from his wickedness, and the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness when he sins.

Now the watchman was standing on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came and said,“ I see a company.” And Joram said,“ Take a horseman and send to meet them, and let him say,‘ Is it peace?’”So a man on horseback went to meet him and said,“ Thus says the king,‘ Is it peace?’” And Jehu said,“ What do you have to do with peace? Turn around and ride behind me.” And the watchman reported, saying,“ The messenger reached them, but he is not coming back.”Then he sent out a second horseman, who came to them and said,“ Thus the king has said,‘ Is it peace?’” And Jehu answered,“ What do you have to do with peace? Turn around and ride behind me.”Again the watchman reported,“ He reached them, but he is not coming back. And the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously.”

All you beasts of the field, come to devour— all you beasts in the forest.His watchmen are blind; they are all without knowledge; they are all silent dogs; they cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.

And when they ask you,‘ Where shall we go?’ you shall say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord:“‘ Those who are for pestilence, to pestilence, and those who are for the sword, to the sword; those who are for famine, to famine, and those who are for captivity, to captivity.’I will appoint over them four kinds of destroyers, declares the Lord: the sword to kill, the dogs to tear, and the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy.

and say, You mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord God! Thus says the Lord God to the mountains and the hills, to the ravines and the valleys: Behold, I, even I, will bring a sword upon you, and I will destroy your high places.

“ Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon; make the watch strong; set up watchmen; prepare the ambushes; for the Lord has both planned and done what he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

And when your people say to you,‘ Will you not tell us what you mean by these?’
