if they give back what they took in pledge for a loan, return what they have stolen, follow the decrees that give life, and do no evil— that person will surely live; they will not die.

They return things they take to make sure loans are repaid. They give back what they have stolen. They obey my rules that give life. They do not do what is evil. Then you can be sure they will live. They will not die.

if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die.

For instance, they might give back a debtor’s security, return what they have stolen, and obey my life giving laws, no longer doing what is evil. If they do this, then they will surely live and not die.

撒該起、謂主曰、主、我以所有之半濟貧、誣詐人者、則四倍償之、

若盜牛羊、毋論宰鬻、皆當償、盜牛者五倍、盜羊者四倍。宵小穿窬、斃於人手、弗償其命。旭日已升、而被擊死者、必償。盜必倍償所竊、如無有以償、鬻之為奴。如其所竊、或牛羊驢、在盜手尚生者、償之維倍。

如人有差失、違逆於我、受人付托、尚存其手、而誑言不存、或據人物、虐取人財、拾人所遺、詭云未得、不論所為、誑言發誓、於是陷罪、既獲愆尤、必以所受托、所強據、所虐取、所拾遺、悉反諸人、所誑言發誓、必於補過之日、以舊物加五分之一、歸於其主、

不虐遇人、不攘奪人、受人質即反之、饑者供以食、裸者被以衣、

如遵我法度、守我禮儀、則可得生、爾當行之勿失、此我所命爾者也。○

二人在上帝前、義者也、遵主誡命禮儀而行、無間然矣、

然以色列族在曠野、違逆乎我、不遵我禮儀、犯我安息日、浸假有人守我法度、則可保生、惟彼藐視之、故我自謂、必在曠野、震怒斯眾、滅之務盡。

賓旅與孤、毋反其正、勿以嫠衣為質。

如貸物於同儕、毋入其家、以取其質。必立於外、待其攜質而出。如其匱乏、則勿取質留之信宿、日入時必反之、使衣衣而寢、後祝福於爾、則爾上帝耶和華必以為義。

驅孤子之驢、以嫠婦之牛為質、

如取人衣為質、日入必反之、彼以衣蔽體、無此則不能安寢、蓋我以矜憫為懷、彼若籲我、我必俯聽。

奪孤子於母懷、取寠人之衣以為質、

爾無故取同儕之質、奪貧寒之褐。

子孫背我、不遵我禮儀、犯我安息日、如有人守我法度、則可保生、惟彼不守、故我自謂、必在曠野、震怒斯眾、滅之務盡。

賞罰在我、我必速至、視人行為而報之、始末初終者、我也、守誡者、福必及之、可得生命、樹果入於邑門、

爾之大道、使我活潑、故我永念不忘兮、

告以色列族云、如男女蹈愆、干犯於我、自取罪戾、當任其過有負於人、當償其物、加五分之一、歸於所負者。倘欲償之、而無主、並無戚屬、則必償之於我、奉與祭司、亦獻牡綿羊為祭、以贖其罪、

如惡人悛改素行、孳孳為義、則可得生、因其思慮、悛改厥惡、則保其生、不就死地。

彼取人之衣為質、陳於祭壇之前、偃卧於上、彼罰人供酒、飲於其上帝殿、

虐遇貧乏、強暴是作、不反質、崇敬偶像、多行不義、

不虐遇人、不攘奪人、受人質、即反之、使饑者得飽、裸者不寒、

毋取上下磨為質、蓋人藉此以得生。
