『故此永恆主這麼說：其樹身既高聳，其樹梢既挺立於雲霄間，其心既以其高大而驕傲，

主耶和華曰、因其崇高、其杪入雲、心志驕泰、

耶和華曰、彼譬喬木、其葉蓁蓁、心志驕泰、

主天主如是云、譬彼樹木、其株崇高、其巔茂密、因而心高志傲、

“‘ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because the great cedar towered over the thick foliage, and because it was proud of its height,

So the Lord and King says,“ The great cedar tree grew very high. Its top was above all the leaves. It was proud of how tall it was.

“ Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because it towered high and set its top among the clouds, and its heart was proud of its height,

“ Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because Egypt became proud and arrogant, and because it set itself so high above the others, with its top reaching to the clouds,

“‘ Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: Since it towered high in stature and set its top among the clouds, and it grew proud on account of its height,

‘ Therefore this is what the Lord God says:“ Because it is tall in stature and has put its top among the clouds, and its heart is haughty in its loftiness,

“ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD:‘ Because you have increased in height, and it set its top among the thick boughs, and its heart was lifted up in its height,

Therefore thus said the Lord Jehovah: Because thou art exalted in stature, and he hath set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

“ Therefore this is what the Lord God says: Since it became great in height and set its top among the clouds, and it grew proud on account of its height,

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

“‘ Therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: Because it was tall in stature, and its top reached into the clouds, and it was proud of its height,

“ Therefore thus said the Lord Yahweh:‘ Because you are exalted in stature, and he has set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. (niv)

Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings. (niv)

But Hezekiah’s heart was proud and he did not respond to the kindness shown him; therefore the Lord’s wrath was on him and on Judah and Jerusalem. (niv)

When the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say,“ I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes. (niv)

The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself,‘ Who can bring me down to the ground?’ (niv)

You said in your heart,“ I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.”But you are brought down to the realm of the dead, to the depths of the pit. Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor. (niv)

Therefore no other trees by the waters are ever to tower proudly on high, lifting their tops above the thick foliage. No other trees so well- watered are ever to reach such a height; they are all destined for death, for the earth below, among mortals who go down to the realm of the dead. (niv)

For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. (niv)

You say to yourself that you have defeated Edom, and now you are arrogant and proud. But stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?” (niv)

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:“ God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” (niv)

Surely he recognizes deceivers; and when he sees evil, does he not take note?But the witless can no more become wise than a wild donkey’s colt can be born human. (niv)

he said,“ Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” (niv)

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. (niv)
