I will strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king and put my sword in his hand. But I will break the arms of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and he will lie there mortally wounded, groaning in pain.

使巴比倫王膂力剛強、俾執我刃、折法老二肱使其嘆息於敵前、若人被重傷、而嘆息焉。

我必堅巴比倫王之臂、以我刃付於其手、我必折法老之臂、使其嘆息於巴比倫王前、若受傷者之嘆息然、使其嘆息於巴比倫王前若受傷者之嘆息然或作法老既受重傷必嘆息於巴比倫王前

I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him like a mortally wounded man.

I will make the arms of the king of Babylon stronger. I will put my sword in his hand. But I will break the arms of Pharaoh. And he will groan in front of Nebuchadnezzar. He will cry out like someone dying from his wounds.

And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him like a man mortally wounded.

“ You Ethiopians will also be slaughtered by my sword,” says the Lord.

I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, while the arms of Pharaoh fall useless to his sides. And when I put my sword in the hand of Babylon’s king and he brings it against the land of Egypt, Egypt will know that I am the Lord.

This is what the Lord says to Cyrus, his anointed one, whose right hand he will empower. Before him, mighty kings will be paralyzed with fear. Their fortress gates will be opened, never to shut again.

They were just trying to intimidate us, imagining that they could discourage us and stop the work. So I continued the work with even greater determination.

The groans of the dying rise from the city, and the wounded cry for help, yet God ignores their moaning.

I am the Lord; there is no other God. I have equipped you for battle, though you don’t even know me,

when I sharpen my flashing sword and begin to carry out justice, I will take revenge on my enemies and repay those who reject me.I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword will devour flesh— the blood of the slaughtered and the captives, and the heads of the enemy leaders.”’

Arise, O Lord! Stand against them, and bring them to their knees! Rescue me from the wicked with your sword!

“ This is what the Sovereign Lord says to Tyre: The whole coastline will tremble at the sound of your fall, as the screams of the wounded echo in the continuing slaughter.

Now I will give your countries to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, who is my servant. I have put everything, even the wild animals, under his control.All the nations will serve him, his son, and his grandson until his time is up. Then many nations and great kings will conquer and rule over Babylon.So you must submit to Babylon’s king and serve him; put your neck under Babylon’s yoke! I will punish any nation that refuses to be his slave, says the Lord. I will send war, famine, and disease upon that nation until Babylon has conquered it.

God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect.

Praise the Lord, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.

“ For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: By the power of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, I will destroy the hordes of Egypt.

You have armed me with strength for the battle; you have subdued my enemies under my feet.

“ Yes,” says the Lord,“ but the time is coming when I will destroy Babylon’s idols. The groans of her wounded people will be heard throughout the land.

They will pass safely through the sea of distress, for the waves of the sea will be held back, and the waters of the Nile will dry up. The pride of Assyria will be crushed, and the rule of Egypt will end.By my power I will make my people strong, and by my authority they will go wherever they wish. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

But can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself?

“ What sorrow awaits Assyria, the rod of my anger. I use it as a club to express my anger.I am sending Assyria against a godless nation, against a people with whom I am angry. Assyria will plunder them, trampling them like dirt beneath its feet.
