我使爾舌貼於上齶、使爾為瘖、不得斥責斯民、彼原為忤逆之族、

主啊！求你開我的嘴，使我的口宣揚讚美你的話。

他對我說：“人子啊！我差派你到以色列人那裡去，就是到那背叛我的叛逆國民那裡去！他們和他們的列祖都得罪了我，直到今日。這人民十分頑固，心裡剛硬，我差派你到他們那裡去。你要對他們說：‘主耶和華這樣說。’他們或聽或不聽（他們原是叛逆的民族），也必知道在他們中間有一位先知。“人子啊！至於你，雖然荊棘和蒺藜在你周圍，你又住在蠍子群中，你不要怕他們，也不要怕他們講的話。他們原是叛逆的民族，你總不要怕他們講的話，在他們面前，也不要驚惶。他們或聽或不聽，你只要把我的話告訴他們，他們原是叛逆的。“人子啊！至於你，你要聽我對你講的話。不要叛逆我，像那叛逆的民族一樣。張開你的口，把我賜給你的吃下去！”

他們討厭那在城門口主持公道的人，恨惡說正直話的。

因此你們只有黑夜，沒有異象，只有黑暗，沒有默示。對先知，日頭要下落，為他們，白日變為黑暗。先見必抱愧，得默示的人要蒙羞；他們都必掩著上唇，因為沒有神的答覆。

諸天哪！要聽。大地啊！要留心聽。因為耶和華說：“我把孩子養育，使他們成長，他們卻背叛了我。

以法蓮和偶像連在一起，任憑他吧！

“因此，你要束腰，你要起來，把我吩咐你的一切話，都告訴他們。不要因他們驚惶，不然我就使你在他們面前驚惶。

錫安的眾城門已經陷入地裡；耶和華把錫安的門閂都毀壞折斷了。錫安的君王和領袖都身在列國中；錫安再沒有律法了；它的眾先知也得不到從耶和華而來的異象。

看吧！到了時候我的話必要應驗；因為你不信我的話，你必成為啞巴，直到這些事成就的那一天，才能說話。”眾人等候撒迦利亞；因他在聖殿裡遲遲不出來，覺得奇怪。等到他出來，卻不能講話，竟成了啞巴，不斷地向他們打手式，他們就知道他在聖殿裡見了異象。

求你不容驕傲人的腳踐踏（“踐踏”原文作“臨到”）我，不讓惡人的手使我流離飄蕩。作惡的人必跌倒；他們被推倒，不能再起來。

“看哪！日子快到，這是主耶和華的宣告。我必使饑荒臨到這地，這饑荒不是因為沒有食物，這乾渴不是因為沒有水；而是因為聽不見耶和華的話。他們從這海飄流到那海，從北到東，到處奔走，要尋求耶和華的話，卻尋不見。
