他卻背叛巴比倫王，差派使者前往埃及，要求埃及人給他馬匹和許多人。他豈能亨通呢？這樣做的人豈能逃脫呢？他背了約豈能逃脫呢？主耶和華說：我指着我的永生起誓，他定要死在巴比倫，就是巴比倫王所在之處；因為巴比倫王立他為王，他竟輕看向王所起的誓，背棄王與他所立的約。當敵人建土堆，築堡壘，要殲滅許多人時，法老雖有強大軍隊和大批人馬，在戰場上還是不能幫助他。

患難時倚靠奸詐的人，好像牙齒斷裂，又如腳脫臼。

投靠耶和華，強似倚賴人；投靠耶和華，強似倚賴權貴。

你們不要倚靠君王，不要倚靠世人，他一點也不能幫助。他的氣一斷，就歸回塵土，他所打算的，當日就消滅了。

法老的軍隊已經從埃及出來，那圍困耶路撒冷的迦勒底人聽見這風聲，就拔營離開耶路撒冷去了。耶和華的話臨到耶利米先知，說：「耶和華－以色列的上帝如此說：你們要對派你們來求問我的猶大王如此說：『看哪，那出來幫助你們的法老軍隊必回埃及本國去。迦勒底人必再來攻打這城，並要攻下，用火焚燒。耶和華如此說：你們不要自欺說「迦勒底人必定離開我們」，因為他們必不離開。你們即使擊敗與你們爭戰的迦勒底全軍，他們當中剩下受傷的人也必各自從帳棚裏起來，用火焚燒這城。』」迦勒底的軍隊因躲避法老的軍隊，拔營離開耶路撒冷的時候，

耶和華如此說：「倚靠人，以血肉為膀臂，心中離棄耶和華的，那人該受詛咒！他必像沙漠裏的矮樹，不見福樂來到；他要住在曠野乾旱之處，無人居住的鹽地。

看哪，你所倚靠的埃及是那斷裂的葦杖，人若倚靠這杖，它就刺進他的手，穿透它。埃及王法老向所有倚靠他的人都是這樣。
