他却背叛巴比伦王，差派使者前往埃及，要求埃及人给他马匹和许多人。他岂能亨通呢？这样做的人岂能逃脱呢？他背了约岂能逃脱呢？主耶和华说：我指着我的永生起誓，他定要死在巴比伦，就是巴比伦王所在之处；因为巴比伦王立他为王，他竟轻看向王所起的誓，背弃王与他所立的约。当敌人建土堆，筑堡垒，要歼灭许多人时，法老虽有强大军队和大批人马，在战场上还是不能帮助他。

患难时倚靠奸诈的人，好像牙齿断裂，又如脚脱臼。

投靠耶和华，强似倚赖人；投靠耶和华，强似倚赖权贵。

你们不要倚靠君王，不要倚靠世人，他一点也不能帮助。他的气一断，就归回尘土，他所打算的，当日就消灭了。

法老的军队已经从埃及出来，那围困耶路撒冷的迦勒底人听见这风声，就拔营离开耶路撒冷去了。耶和华的话临到耶利米先知，说：“耶和华—以色列的神如此说：你们要对派你们来求问我的犹大王如此说：‘看哪，那出来帮助你们的法老军队必回埃及本国去。迦勒底人必再来攻打这城，并要攻下，用火焚烧。耶和华如此说：你们不要自欺说“迦勒底人必定离开我们”，因为他们必不离开。你们即使击败与你们争战的迦勒底全军，他们当中剩下受伤的人也必各自从帐棚里起来，用火焚烧这城。’”迦勒底的军队因躲避法老的军队，拔营离开耶路撒冷的时候，

耶和华如此说：“倚靠人，以血肉为膀臂，心中离弃耶和华的，那人该受诅咒！他必像沙漠里的矮树，不见福乐来到；他要住在旷野干旱之处，无人居住的盐地。

看哪，你所倚靠的埃及是那断裂的苇杖，人若倚靠这杖，它就刺进他的手，穿透它。埃及王法老向所有倚靠他的人都是这样。
