可是這人背叛了巴比倫王，差遣使者到埃及去，要得戰馬和大軍。他能亨通嗎？行這樣事的人，怎能逃脫呢？他破壞條約，怎能逃脫呢？我指著我的永生起誓：他藐視了自己所起的誓，背棄了與王所立的約，因此他必死在巴比倫，就是那立他作王的巴比倫王的國家。這是耶和華的宣告。敵人建造圍城的高牆，築起攻城土壘要剪除多人的時候，法老率領大軍和大隊人馬，還是不能幫助他作戰。

遭遇災難的時候，倚靠奸詐的人，就像倚靠壞牙和不穩的腳。

投靠耶和華，勝過倚靠人。投靠耶和華，勝過倚靠王子。

你們不要倚靠權貴，不要倚靠世人，他們一點都不能救助你們。他們的氣一斷，就歸回塵土；他們所計劃的，當天就幻滅了。

法老的軍隊已經從埃及出來；那些圍困耶路撒冷的迦勒底人聽見了他們的風聲，就從耶路撒冷撤退了。那時，耶和華的話臨到耶利米先知，“耶和華以色列的神這樣說：你們要對差派你們來求問我的猶大王這樣說：‘看哪！那出來幫助你們的法老的軍隊，必回到他們的埃及本地去。迦勒底人必回來，攻擊這城，佔領這城，放火燒毀這城。’耶和華這樣說：你們不要自己欺騙自己，說：‘迦勒底人必定離開我們！’因為他們必不離開。即使你們擊敗了那攻打你們的迦勒底全軍，他們中間只剩下一些受重傷的人，他們也必各從自己的帳棚裡起來，放火燒毀這城。’”迦勒底人的軍隊因懼怕法老的軍隊而從耶路撒冷撤退的時候，

耶和華這樣說：“倚靠世人，恃憑肉體為自己的力量，心裡偏離耶和華的，這人該受咒詛。他必像沙漠中的灌木，福樂來到，他也必看不見，卻要住在曠野乾旱之地、無人居住的鹹地。

看哪！你所倚靠的埃及，是那壓傷的蘆葦杖；人若倚靠它，它就會插進他的手，把手刺透。埃及王法老對所有倚靠他的人，也是這樣。
