and say, Thus says the Lord God:“ Behold, I am against you, O Sidon, and I will manifest my glory in your midst. And they shall know that I am the Lord when I execute judgments in her and manifest my holiness in her;

After many days you will be mustered. In the latter years you will go against the land that is restored from war, the land whose people were gathered from many peoples upon the mountains of Israel, which had been a continual waste. Its people were brought out from the peoples and now dwell securely, all of them.

For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be bought in this land.’

“ Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord,“ when the plowman shall overtake the reaper and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed; the mountains shall drip sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it.I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and drink their wine, and they shall make gardens and eat their fruit.

“ I will make with them a covenant of peace and banish wild beasts from the land, so that they may dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.And I will make them and the places all around my hill a blessing, and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing.And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land. And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke, and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them.They shall no more be a prey to the nations, nor shall the beasts of the land devour them. They shall dwell securely, and none shall make them afraid.

and said to him,“ Run, say to that young man,‘ Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of people and livestock in it.And I will be to her a wall of fire all around, declares the Lord, and I will be the glory in her midst.’”

And Judah and Israel lived in safety, from Dan even to Beersheba, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, all the days of Solomon.

In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge.

But when you go over the Jordan and live in the land that the Lord your God is giving you to inherit, and when he gives you rest from all your enemies around, so that you live in safety,

And I am exceedingly angry with the nations that are at ease; for while I was angry but a little, they furthered the disaster.

The word of the Lord came to me:“ Son of man, set your face toward the Ammonites and prophesy against them.Say to the Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God, Because you said,‘ Aha!’ over my sanctuary when it was profaned, and over the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and over the house of Judah when they went into exile,therefore behold, I am handing you over to the people of the East for a possession, and they shall set their encampments among you and make their dwellings in your midst. Then you will know that I am the Lord.“ Thus says the Lord God: Because Moab and Seir said,‘ Behold, the house of Judah is like all the other nations,’therefore I will lay open the flank of Moab from the cities, from its cities on its frontier, the glory of the country, Beth-jeshimoth, Baal-meon, and Kiriathaim.I will give it along with the Ammonites to the people of the East as a possession, that the Ammonites may be remembered no more among the nations,and I will execute judgments upon Moab. Then they will know that I am the Lord.“ Thus says the Lord God: Because Edom acted revengefully against the house of Judah and has grievously offended in taking vengeance on them,therefore thus says the Lord God, I will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off from it man and beast. And I will make it desolate; from Teman even to Dedan they shall fall by the sword.And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel, and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath, and they shall know my vengeance, declares the Lord God.“ Thus says the Lord God: Because the Philistines acted revengefully and took vengeance with malice of soul to destroy in never-ending enmity,therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites and destroy the rest of the seacoast.I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I lay my vengeance upon them.”

And I will make for them a covenant on that day with the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens, and the creeping things of the ground. And I will abolish the bow, the sword, and war from the land, and I will make you lie down in safety.

“ I have heard the taunts of Moab and the revilings of the Ammonites, how they have taunted my people and made boasts against their territory.Therefore, as I live,” declares the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel,“ Moab shall become like Sodom, and the Ammonites like Gomorrah, a land possessed by nettles and salt pits, and a waste forever. The remnant of my people shall plunder them, and the survivors of my nation shall possess them.”

For he has sent to us in Babylon, saying,“ Your exile will be long; build houses and live in them, and plant gardens and eat their produce.”’”

Jerusalem sinned grievously; therefore she became filthy; all who honored her despise her, for they have seen her nakedness; she herself groans and turns her face away.

Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce.Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease.

Because you have plundered many nations, all the remnant of the peoples shall plunder you, for the blood of man and violence to the earth, to cities and all who dwell in them.

In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called:‘ The Lord is our righteousness.’“ Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when they shall no longer say,‘ As the Lord lives who brought up the people of Israel out of the land of Egypt,’but‘ As the Lord lives who brought up and led the offspring of the house of Israel out of the north country and out of all the countries where he had driven them.’ Then they shall dwell in their own land.”

The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.About Egypt. Concerning the army of Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates at Carchemish and which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:“ Prepare buckler and shield, and advance for battle!Harness the horses; mount, O horsemen! Take your stations with your helmets, polish your spears, put on your armor!Why have I seen it? They are dismayed and have turned backward. Their warriors are beaten down and have fled in haste; they look not back— terror on every side! declares the Lord.“ The swift cannot flee away, nor the warrior escape; in the north by the river Euphrates they have stumbled and fallen.“ Who is this, rising like the Nile, like rivers whose waters surge?Egypt rises like the Nile, like rivers whose waters surge. He said,‘ I will rise, I will cover the earth, I will destroy cities and their inhabitants.’Advance, O horses, and rage, O chariots! Let the warriors go out: men of Cush and Put who handle the shield, men of Lud, skilled in handling the bow.That day is the day of the Lord God of hosts, a day of vengeance, to avenge himself on his foes. In vain you have used many medicines; there is no healing for you.The nations have heard of your shame, and the earth is full of your cry; for warrior has stumbled against warrior; they have both fallen together.”The word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to strike the land of Egypt:“ Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in Migdol; proclaim in Memphis and Tahpanhes; say,‘ Stand ready and be prepared, for the sword shall devour around you.’Why are your mighty ones face down? They do not stand because the Lord thrust them down.He made many stumble, and they fell, and they said one to another,‘ Arise, and let us go back to our own people and to the land of our birth, because of the sword of the oppressor.’Call the name of Pharaoh, king of Egypt,‘ Noisy one who lets the hour go by.’“ As I live, declares the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts, like Tabor among the mountains and like Carmel by the sea, shall one come.Prepare yourselves baggage for exile, O inhabitants of Egypt! For Memphis shall become a waste, a ruin, without inhabitant.“ A beautiful heifer is Egypt, but a biting fly from the north has come upon her.Even her hired soldiers in her midst are like fattened calves; yes, they have turned and fled together; they did not stand, for the day of their calamity has come upon them, the time of their punishment.“ She makes a sound like a serpent gliding away; for her enemies march in force and come against her with axes like those who fell trees.They shall cut down her forest, declares the Lord, though it is impenetrable, because they are more numerous than locusts; they are without number.The daughter of Egypt shall be put to shame; she shall be delivered into the hand of a people from the north.”The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, said:“ Behold, I am bringing punishment upon Amon of Thebes, and Pharaoh and Egypt and her gods and her kings, upon Pharaoh and those who trust in him.I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their life, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. Afterward Egypt shall be inhabited as in the days of old, declares the Lord.“ But fear not, O Jacob my servant, nor be dismayed, O Israel, for behold, I will save you from far away, and your offspring from the land of their captivity. Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease, and none shall make him afraid.Fear not, O Jacob my servant, declares the Lord, for I am with you. I will make a full end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but of you I will not make a full end. I will discipline you in just measure, and I will by no means leave you unpunished.”

Ah, you destroyer, who yourself have not been destroyed, you traitor, whom none has betrayed! When you have ceased to destroy, you will be destroyed; and when you have finished betraying, they will betray you.

At evening time, behold, terror! Before morning, they are no more! This is the portion of those who loot us, and the lot of those who plunder us.

Therefore all who devour you shall be devoured, and all your foes, every one of them, shall go into captivity; those who plunder you shall be plundered, and all who prey on you I will make a prey.

“ Therefore you shall do my statutes and keep my rules and perform them, and then you will dwell in the land securely.The land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill and dwell in it securely.

The oracle concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.On a bare hill raise a signal; cry aloud to them; wave the hand for them to enter the gates of the nobles.I myself have commanded my consecrated ones, and have summoned my mighty men to execute my anger, my proudly exulting ones.The sound of a tumult is on the mountains as of a great multitude! The sound of an uproar of kingdoms, of nations gathering together! The Lord of hosts is mustering a host for battle.They come from a distant land, from the end of the heavens, the Lord and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.Wail, for the day of the Lord is near; as destruction from the Almighty it will come!Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every human heart will melt.They will be dismayed: pangs and agony will seize them; they will be in anguish like a woman in labor. They will look aghast at one another; their faces will be aflame.Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it.For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising, and the moon will not shed its light.I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pomp of the arrogant, and lay low the pompous pride of the ruthless.I will make people more rare than fine gold, and mankind than the gold of Ophir.Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the Lord of hosts in the day of his fierce anger.And like a hunted gazelle, or like sheep with none to gather them, each will turn to his own people, and each will flee to his own land.Whoever is found will be thrust through, and whoever is caught will fall by the sword.Their infants will be dashed in pieces before their eyes; their houses will be plundered and their wives ravished.Behold, I am stirring up the Medes against them, who have no regard for silver and do not delight in gold.Their bows will slaughter the young men; they will have no mercy on the fruit of the womb; their eyes will not pity children.And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor and pomp of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them.It will never be inhabited or lived in for all generations; no Arab will pitch his tent there; no shepherds will make their flocks lie down there.But wild animals will lie down there, and their houses will be full of howling creatures; there ostriches will dwell, and there wild goats will dance.

and say,‘ I will go up against the land of unwalled villages. I will fall upon the quiet people who dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having no bars or gates,’

Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin Israel! Again you shall adorn yourself with tambourines and shall go forth in the dance of the merrymakers.Again you shall plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant and shall enjoy the fruit.

And you are my sheep, human sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, declares the Lord God.”The word of the Lord came to me:“ Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir, and prophesy against it,and say to it, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out my hand against you, and I will make you a desolation and a waste.I will lay your cities waste, and you shall become a desolation, and you shall know that I am the Lord.Because you cherished perpetual enmity and gave over the people of Israel to the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, at the time of their final punishment,therefore, as I live, declares the Lord God, I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; because you did not hate bloodshed, therefore blood shall pursue you.I will make Mount Seir a waste and a desolation, and I will cut off from it all who come and go.And I will fill its mountains with the slain. On your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those slain with the sword shall fall.I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities shall not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the Lord.“ Because you said,‘ These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will take possession of them’— although the Lord was there—therefore, as I live, declares the Lord God, I will deal with you according to the anger and envy that you showed because of your hatred against them. And I will make myself known among them, when I judge you.And you shall know that I am the Lord.“ I have heard all the revilings that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying,‘ They are laid desolate; they are given us to devour.’And you magnified yourselves against me with your mouth, and multiplied your words against me; I heard it.Thus says the Lord God: While the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate.As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will deal with you; you shall be desolate, Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the Lord.
