你讀完這書卷，就要把一塊石頭拴在其上，投入幼發拉底河中，說：『巴比倫因耶和華所要降與它的災禍，必如此沉下去，不再浮起來，百姓也必困乏。』」耶利米的話到此為止。

販賣這些貨物、藉着她發財的商人，因怕她的痛苦，就遠遠地站着哭泣悲哀，說：「禍哉，禍哉，這大城！她穿着細麻、紫色、朱紅色的衣服，用金子、寶石、珍珠為妝飾。一時之間，這麼多的財富就歸於無有了。」所有的船長和到處航海的，水手以及所有靠海為業的，都遠遠地站着，看見燒她的煙，就喊着說：「有哪一個城能跟這大城比呢？」於是他們把灰塵撒在頭上，哭泣悲哀地喊着說：「禍哉，禍哉，這大城！凡有船在海中的，都因她的珍寶成了富足。她在一時之間就成為荒蕪。

有一位大力的天使舉起一塊石頭，好像大磨石，扔在海裏，說：「巴比倫大城也必這樣猛力地被扔下去，絕對見不到了。

我必使你成為光滑的磐石，作曬網的場所。你不得再被建造，因為我－耶和華已這樣說了。這是主耶和華說的。」

凡看見你的都要定睛望你，留意看你，說：『就是這個人嗎？他使大地顫抖，使列國震動，使世界如同荒野，使城鎮傾覆；是他，不釋放被擄的人歸家。』列國的君王各自在自己的墳墓中，在尊榮裏長眠。惟獨你被拋棄在你的墳墓之外，有如被厭惡的枝子，被許多用刀刺透殺死的人覆蓋着，一同墜落地府的石頭那裏，像被踐踏的屍首。

地上的君王，與她行淫、一同奢華的，看見燒她的煙，就必為她哭泣哀號；因怕她的痛苦，就遠遠地站着，說：「禍哉，禍哉，這大城！堅固的巴比倫城啊！一時之間，你的審判要來到了。」

海島所有的居民為你驚奇，他們的君王都甚恐慌，面帶愁容。萬民中的商人向你發噓聲；你令人驚恐，不再存留於世，直到永遠。」
