我必叫你令人惊恐，不再存留于世；人虽寻找你，却永寻不见。这是主耶和华说的。”

你念完了这书，就把一块石头拴在书上，扔在幼发拉底河中，说：‘巴比伦因耶和华所要降与他的灾祸，必如此沉下去，不再兴起，人民也必困乏。’”耶利米的话到此为止。

他要挫折王子的骄气；他向地上的君王显威可畏。

贩卖这些货物、藉着她发了财的客商，因怕她的痛苦，就远远地站着哭泣悲哀，说：“哀哉！哀哉！这大城啊！素常穿着细麻、紫色、朱红色的衣服，又用金子、宝石，和珍珠为妆饰。一时之间，这么大的富厚就归于无有了。”凡船主和坐船往各处去的，并众水手，连所有靠海为业的，都远远地站着，看见烧她的烟，就喊着说：“有何城能比这大城呢？”他们又把尘土撒在头上，哭泣悲哀，喊着说：“哀哉！哀哉！这大城啊！”凡有船在海中的，都因她的珍宝成了富足，她在一时之间就成了荒场！

有一位大力的天使举起一块石头，好像大磨石，扔在海里，说：“巴比伦大城也必这样猛力地被扔下去，决不能再见了。

我必使你成为净光的磐石，作晒网的地方。你不得再被建造，因为这是主耶和华说的。”

凡看见你的都要定睛看你，留意看你，说：‘使大地战抖，使列国震动，使世界如同荒野，使城邑倾覆，不释放被掳的人归家，是这个人吗？’列国的君王俱各在自己阴宅的荣耀中安睡。惟独你被抛弃，不得入你的坟墓，好像可憎的枝子，以被杀的人为衣，就是被刀刺透，坠落坑中石头那里的；你又像被践踏的尸首一样。

地上的君王，素来与她行淫、一同奢华的，看见烧她的烟，就必为她哭泣哀号。因怕她的痛苦，就远远地站着说：“哀哉！哀哉！巴比伦大城，坚固的城啊，一时之间你的刑罚就来到了。”

海岛的居民为你惊奇；他们的君王都甚恐慌，面带愁容。各国民中的客商都向你发嘶声；你令人惊恐，不再存留于世，直到永远。”
