你宣读完这书卷以后，要把一块石头和书拴在一起，丢进幼发拉底河里，然后说：‘巴比伦必因耶和华（“耶和华”原文作“我”）所要降给它的灾祸，照样沉下去，不再浮上来；它的人民也必灭没。’”耶利米的话到此为止。

他必挫折众领袖的傲气，他必使地上的君王畏惧他。

有一位大力的天使，把一块好像大磨石一样的石头，举起来抛在海里，说：“巴比伦大城也必这样被猛力地抛下去，决不能再找到了！

我必使你成为光滑的磐石；你必成为晒网的地方；你必不再被建造，因为我耶和华已经说了。这是主耶和华的宣告。’

那些看见你的，都必定睛看你，他们必注视着你，说：‘那使大地震动，使列国摇撼，使世界如同荒野，倾覆城镇，又不释放囚犯的，就是这人吗？’列国的君王都在荣耀中安睡，各在自己的坟墓里。但你要从你的坟墓中被逐出，好像一根被厌弃的树枝，你被那些遭刀剑所杀的人掩盖，就是那些被抛到坑中石头那里的人。你就像一具遭人践踏的尸体。

“地上的众王，就是跟她一同行邪淫、骄奢无度的，看见焚烧她的烟的时候，就必为她痛哭捶胸。他们因为害怕她所受的痛苦，就远远地站着，说：‘有祸了！有祸了！这大城，巴比伦，这坚固的城啊！一时之间你的审判就来到了！’

沿海地带所有的居民都因你惊骇；他们的君王都极其恐慌，面容扭曲。各族的商人都嗤笑你；你必遭遇可怕的灾祸，你就永远不再存在了。’”
