一時之間這麼大的財富已變為荒涼了！』每一個船長、每一個航行往別處去的和水手們、以及凡作海業的、都在遠處站着，看見她被焚燒的煙就喊着說：『哪一個城能比得過那大城呢？』他們把塵土撒在頭上，哭泣哀慟喊着說：『有禍啊！有禍啊！那大城！那城裏頭凡有船在海中的、由她的珍寶而得財富的、有禍啊！一時之間她已變為荒涼了！天哪，聖眾使徒和神言人哪，因那城而歡躍吧！因為上帝已為你們伸雪而判罰她了。』有一位大有力量的天使舉起一塊石頭來、像大磨石、丟在海裏、說：『巴比倫大城也必這樣砰磅一下被丟下，決不能再看到了！彈絃琴、作樂、吹簫笛、吹號筒者、的聲音在你中間決不能再聽到了；各手工業各手藝人在你中間決不能再看到了；石磨的聲音在你中間決不能再聽到了；燈光決不能再照耀於你中間了；新郎新娘的聲音在你中間決不能再聽到了；因為你的商人曾經是地上的大人物；因為列國都曾在你的邪術中受了迷惑。』在這裏並且見有神言人和聖徒們的血、以及地上一切被屠殺之人的血。

他當着他們面前向你掄刀時，便要使許多外族之民因你而驚駭，他們的君王必因你而大為震驚；當你仆倒的日子，他們各人都必為自己的性命而息息發顫。

那時靠海的人君都必從寶座上下來，除去外袍，剝下刺繡的衣服，披上戰兢為服裝，坐在地上，息息發抖，因你而驚駭。
