Recite a proverb to this rebellious house and say to them,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says:“‘ Set on the pot, set it on, pour water in it too;

當為悖逆之家設譬曰、主耶和華云、置鼎於火、傾水於中、

當罕譬而喻、以示違逆之家、曰、主耶和華曰、置鼎於火、盛之於水、

當為此悖逆之族設譬喻、告之曰、主天主如是云、當置釜於火、置而傾水其中、

Tell this rebellious people a parable and say to them:‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says:“‘ Put on the cooking pot; put it on and pour water into it.

Your people refuse to obey me. So tell them a story. Say to them,‘ The Lord and King told me,“‘ “Put a cooking pot on the fire. Pour water into it.

And utter a parable to the rebellious house and say to them, Thus says the Lord God:“ Set on the pot, set it on; pour in water also;

Then give these rebels an illustration with this message from the Sovereign Lord:“ Put a pot on the fire, and pour in some water.

Now speak a parable to the rebellious house. Tell them,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: Put the pot on the fire— put it on, and then pour water into it!

Present a parable to the rebellious house and say to them,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Put on the pot, put it on and also pour water into it;

And utter a parable to the rebellious house, and say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Put on a pot, set it on, And also pour water into it.

And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Set on the caldron, set it on, and also pour water into it:

Now speak a parable to the rebellious house. Tell them: This is what the Lord God says: Put the pot on the fire— put it on, and then pour water into it!

And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Set on a pot, set[ it] on, and also pour water into it:

Utter a parable to the rebellious house, and tell them,‘ The Lord Yahweh says,“ Put the cauldron on the fire. Put it on, and also pour water into it.

“ Son of man, offer a riddle, and tell a parable to the house of Israel.

Then I said,“ O sovereign LORD! They are saying of me,‘ Does he not simply speak in eloquent figures of speech?’”

They say,‘ The time is not near to build houses; the city is a cooking pot and we are the meat in it.’

But you, son of man, do not fear them, and do not fear their words– even though briers and thorns surround you and you live among scorpions– do not fear their words and do not be terrified of the looks they give you, for they are a rebellious house!

Listen, O heavens, pay attention, O earth! For the LORD speaks:“ I raised children, I brought them up, but they have rebelled against me!

He said to me,“ Son of man, I am sending you to the house of Israel, to rebellious nations who have rebelled against me; both they and their fathers have revolted against me to this very day.

“‘ Therefore this is what the sovereign LORD says: Woe to the city of bloodshed, the pot whose rot is in it, whose rot has not been removed from it! Empty it piece by piece. No lot has fallen on it.

I will sing a song that imparts wisdom; I will make insightful observations about the past.

“ The rebellious children are as good as dead,” says the LORD,“ those who make plans without consulting me, who form alliances without consulting my Spirit, and thereby compound their sin.

As for you, son of man, listen to what I am saying to you: Do not rebel like that rebellious house! Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you.”

For these are rebellious people– they are lying children, children unwilling to obey the LORD’s law.

“ Say to the rebellious house of Israel:‘ Don’t you know what these things mean?’ Say:‘ See here, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and took her king and her officials prisoner and brought them to himself in Babylon.

He said,“ You have been given the opportunity to know the secrets of the kingdom of God, but for others they are in parables, so that although they see they may not see, and although they hear they may not understand.

The LORD again asked me,“ What do you see?” I answered,“ I see a pot of boiling water; it is tipped toward us from the north.”

“ You stubborn people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are always resisting the Holy Spirit, like your ancestors did!

and say:“‘ What a lioness was your mother among the lions! She lay among young lions; she reared her cubs.She reared one of her cubs; he became a young lion. He learned to tear prey; he devoured people.The nations heard about him; he was trapped in their pit. They brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt.“‘ When she realized that she waited in vain, her hope was lost. She took another of her cubs and made him a young lion.He walked about among the lions; he became a young lion. He learned to tear prey; he devoured people.He broke down their strongholds and devastated their cities. The land and everything in it was frightened at the sound of his roaring.The nations– the surrounding regions– attacked him. They threw their net over him; he was caught in their pit.They put him in a collar with hooks; they brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him to prison so that his voice would not be heard any longer on the mountains of Israel.“‘ Your mother was like a vine in your vineyard, planted by water. It was fruitful and full of branches because it was well-watered.Its boughs were strong, fit for rulers’ scepters; it reached up into the clouds. It stood out because of its height and its many branches.But it was plucked up in anger; it was thrown down to the ground. The east wind dried up its fruit; its strong branches broke off and withered– a fire consumed them.Now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land.A fire has gone out from its branch; it has consumed its shoot and its fruit. No strong branch was left in it, nor a scepter to rule.’ This is a lament song, and has become a lament song.”

This city will not be a cooking pot for you, and you will not be meat within it; I will judge you at the border of Israel.

For I, the LORD, will speak. Whatever word I speak will be accomplished. It will not be delayed any longer. Indeed in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and accomplish it, declares the sovereign LORD.’”

Now they wanted to arrest him( but they feared the crowd), because they realized that he told this parable against them. So they left him and went away.

“ Son of man, you are living in the midst of a rebellious house. They have eyes to see, but do not see, and ears to hear, but do not hear, because they are a rebellious house.

In that day people will sing this taunt song to you– they will mock you with this lament:‘ We are completely destroyed; they sell off the property of my people. How they remove it from me! They assign our fields to the conqueror.’

I have made your forehead harder than flint– like diamond! Do not fear them or be terrified of the looks they give you, for they are a rebellious house.”

Therefore, this is what the sovereign LORD says:‘ The corpses you have dumped in the midst of the city are the meat, and this city is the cooking pot, but I will take you out of it.

But they rebelled and offended his holy Spirit, so he turned into an enemy and fought against them.

After I vent my wrath on it Babylon will be uninhabited. It will be totally desolate. All who pass by will be filled with horror and will hiss out their scorn because of all the disasters that have happened to it.“ Take up your battle positions all around Babylon, all you soldiers who are armed with bows. Shoot all your arrows at her! Do not hold any back! For she has sinned against the LORD.
