Then the Lord said to me,“ Son of man, on the day I take away their stronghold— their joy and glory, their heart’s desire, their dearest treasure— I will also take away their sons and daughters.

“人子啊，我除掉他们所倚靠、所欢喜的荣耀，并眼中所喜爱、心里所重看的儿女。

“你，人子啊，那日当我除掉他们所倚靠的保障、所欢喜的荣耀，并眼中所喜爱的，心里所重看的儿女时，

“你，人子啊，那日当我除掉他们所倚靠的保障、所欢喜的荣耀，并眼中所喜爱的，心里所重看的儿女时，

“人子啊，有一天我要夺去他们所喜悦、所夸耀、眼中所爱、心里所慕的堡垒，也要夺去他们的儿女。

“人子啊！我从他们中间夺去他们的堡垒、他们所喜欢的荣耀、他们眼所喜爱的、心所崇尚的和他们的儿女的时候，

「人子啊，我除掉他們所倚靠、所歡喜的榮耀，並眼中所喜愛、心裏所重看的兒女。

「你，人子啊，那日當我除掉他們所倚靠的保障、所歡喜的榮耀，並眼中所喜愛的，心裏所重看的兒女時，

「你，人子啊，那日當我除掉他們所倚靠的保障、所歡喜的榮耀，並眼中所喜愛的，心裏所重看的兒女時，

「人子啊，有一天我要奪去他們所喜悅、所誇耀、眼中所愛、心裡所慕的堡壘，也要奪去他們的兒女。

“人子啊！我從他們中間奪去他們的堡壘、他們所喜歡的榮耀、他們眼所喜愛的、心所崇尚的和他們的兒女的時候，

『人子啊，我從他們中間取去——他們所倚靠的保障、他們華美的喜悅物，他們眼裏所喜愛的、心中所仰賴而寄託的、以及他們的兒女、——的日子，

人子歟、我去斯民所恃之力、所悅之榮、及目所欲、與心所愛之子女、

人子、越至後日民所倚賴、所欣慕之聖所、爰及子女、我必棄之如遺。

惟爾人子、斯民所倚所樂之榮、及其目所悅其心所慕者、即其子女、日後我必除之、

“ And you, son of man, on the day I take away their stronghold, their joy and glory, the delight of their eyes, their heart’s desire, and their sons and daughters as well—

“ Son of man, I will take away their beautiful temple. It is their joy and glory. They take delight in it. Their hearts long for it. I will also take away their sons and daughters.

“ As for you, son of man, surely on the day when I take from them their stronghold, their joy and glory, the delight of their eyes and their soul’s desire, and also their sons and daughters,

“ As for you, son of man, know that on that day I will take from them their stronghold— their pride and joy, the delight of their eyes, and the longing of their hearts— as well as their sons and daughters.

‘ As for you, son of man, will it not be on the day when I take from them their stronghold, the joy of their splendor, that which is precious in their eyes and their heart’s longing, their sons and their daughters,

‘ And you, son of man— will it not be in the day when I take from them their stronghold, their joy and their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that on which they set their minds, their sons and their daughters:

And thou, son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their heart, their sons and their daughters,

“‘ Son of man, know that on the day I take their stronghold from them, their pride and joy, the delight of their eyes and the longing of their hearts, as well as their sons and daughters,

Also, thou son of man,[ shall it] not[ be] in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,

“ And you, son of man, this is what will happen on the day I take from them their stronghold– their beautiful source of joy, the object in which their eyes delight, and the main concern of their lives, as well as their sons and daughters:

“ You, son of man, shouldn’t it be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their heart, their sons and their daughters,

and I was told to give this message to the people of Israel. This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will defile my Temple, the source of your security and pride, the place your heart delights in. Your sons and daughters whom you left behind in Judah will be slaughtered by the sword.

So this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says about them:“ I will punish them! Their young men will die in battle, and their boys and girls will starve to death.

It is high and magnificent; the whole earth rejoices to see it! Mount Zion, the holy mountain, is the city of the great King!

From Mount Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines in glorious radiance.

But don’t be fooled by those who promise you safety simply because the Lord’s Temple is here. They chant,“ The Lord’s Temple is here! The Lord’s Temple is here!”

I was glad when they said to me,“ Let us go to the house of the Lord.”And now here we are, standing inside your gates, O Jerusalem.Jerusalem is a well built city; its seamless walls cannot be breached.All the tribes of Israel— the Lord’s people— make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the Lord, as the law requires of Israel.Here stand the thrones where judgment is given, the thrones of the dynasty of David.Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper.O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces.For the sake of my family and friends, I will say,“ May you have peace.”For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem.

You will watch as your sons and daughters are taken away as slaves. Your heart will break for them, but you won’t be able to help them.

The king of Babylon made Zedekiah watch as he slaughtered his sons. He also slaughtered all the officials of Judah at Riblah.
