So do what Ezekiel did. Do not cover your mustache and beard. Do not eat the food people eat to comfort them when someone dies.

And you will do as I have done. You will not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners.

And you shall do as I have done; you shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men.

Then you will do as Ezekiel has done. You will not mourn in public or console yourselves by eating the food brought by friends.

Ten people might be left in one house. If they are, they will die there.Relatives might come to burn the dead bodies. If they do, they’ll have to carry them out of the house first. They might ask someone still hiding there,“ Is anyone else here with you?” If the answer is no, the relatives will go on to say,“ Be quiet! We must not pray in the Lord’ s name.”

Their priests were killed by swords. Their widows weren’t able to weep.

They will weep when they hear galloping horses. They will weep at the noise of enemy chariots. They will weep at the rumble of their wheels. Parents will not even try to help their children. Their hands will not be able to help them.

A plague will kill those who are left alive. The widows of sinful men won’t even weep over their own children.

“ Some of them will die of deadly sicknesses. No one will mourn for them. Their bodies will not be buried. Instead, they will be like human waste lying there on the ground. Others will die because of war and hunger. Their bodies will not be buried. Instead, they will become food for the birds and the wild animals.”The Lord says,“ Jeremiah, suppose a meal is being served because someone has died. Do not enter any house where that is happening. Do not go there to mourn or to comfort the family. I will not bless these people anymore. I have taken my love and pity away from them,” announces the Lord.“ Important and unimportant people alike will die in this land. Their bodies will not be buried. No one will mourn for them. No one will cut themselves or shave their head for the dead.No one will offer food or drink to comfort those who mourn for the dead. No one will do this even if someone’s father or mother has died.

“ Son of man, I will take away from you the wife you delight in. It will happen very soon. But do not sing songs of sadness. Do not let any tears flow from your eyes.Groan quietly. Do not mourn for your wife when she dies. Keep your turban on your head. Keep your sandals on your feet. Do not cover your mustache and beard. Do not eat the food people eat to comfort them when someone dies.”
