“‘ Now your impurity is lewdness. Because I tried to cleanse you but you would not be cleansed from your impurity, you will not be clean again until my wrath against you has subsided.

“ Jerusalem, you are really impure. I tried to clean you up. But you would not let me make you pure. So you will not be clean again until I am no longer so angry with you.

On account of your unclean lewdness, because I would have cleansed you and you were not cleansed from your uncleanness, you shall not be cleansed anymore till I have satisfied my fury upon you.

Your impurity is your lewdness and the corruption of your idolatry. I tried to cleanse you, but you refused. So now you will remain in your filth until my fury against you has been satisfied.

Because of the depravity of your uncleanness— since I tried to purify you, but you would not be purified from your uncleanness— you will not be pure again until I have satisfied my wrath on you.

In your filthiness is outrageous sin. Because I would have cleansed you, Yet you are not clean, You will not be cleansed from your filthiness again Until I have expended My wrath on you.

In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you, and you were not cleansed, You will not be cleansed of your filthiness anymore, Till I have caused My fury to rest upon you.

Because of the indecency of your uncleanness— since I tried to purify you, but you would not be purified from your uncleanness— you will not be pure again until I have satisfied My wrath on you.

You mix uncleanness with obscene conduct. I tried to cleanse you, but you are not clean. You will not be cleansed from your uncleanness until I have exhausted my anger on you.

“‘“ In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you and you weren’t cleansed, you won’t be cleansed from your filthiness any more, until I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.

Son of man, say unto her, Thou[ art] the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation.

Thus shall mine anger be accomplished, and I will cause my fury to rest upon them, and I will be comforted: and they shall know that I the LORD have spoken[ it] in my zeal, when I have accomplished my fury in them.

She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God.

Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice,[ yet] will I not hear them.

So will I make my fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry.

When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in,[ and] the troop of robbers spoileth without.

They[ are] all grievous revolters, walking with slanders:[ they are] brass and iron; they[ are] all corrupters.The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.Reprobate silver shall[ men] call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.

Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and[ that] the filthiness of it may be molten in it,[ that] the scum of it may be consumed.

Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth[ it] not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not.And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him for all this.Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard.Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine,[ and] they rebel against me.Though I have bound[ and] strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me.They return,[ but] not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this[ shall be] their derision in the land of Egypt.

Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early,[ and] corrupted all their doings.

But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.And also I have withholden the rain from you, when[ there were] yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.So two[ or] three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured[ them]: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.I have overthrown[ some] of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel:[ and] because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till[ there was] no remedy.

The LORD said moreover unto me; Son of man, wilt thou judge Aholah and Aholibah? yea, declare unto them their abominations;That they have committed adultery, and blood[ is] in their hands, and with their idols have they committed adultery, and have also caused their sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through[ the fire], to devour[ them].Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.And furthermore, that ye have sent for men to come from far, unto whom a messenger[ was] sent; and, lo, they came: for whom thou didst wash thyself, paintedst thy eyes, and deckedst thyself with ornaments,And satest upon a stately bed, and a table prepared before it, whereupon thou hast set mine incense and mine oil.And a voice of a multitude being at ease[ was] with her: and with the men of the common sort[ were] brought Sabeans from the wilderness, which put bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upon their heads.Then said I unto[ her that was] old in adulteries, Will they now commit whoredoms with her, and she[ with them]?Yet they went in unto her, as they go in unto a woman that playeth the harlot: so went they in unto Aholah and unto Aholibah, the lewd women.And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood; because they[ are] adulteresses, and blood[ is] in their hands.For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will bring up a company upon them, and will give them to be removed and spoiled.And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.Thus will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may be taught not to do after your lewdness.

What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up;[ and] break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung[ it]:And if it bear fruit,[ well]: and if not,[ then] after that thou shalt cut it down.

For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.The ancient and honourable, he[ is] the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he[ is] the tail.For the leaders of this people cause[ them] to err; and[ they that are] led of them[ are] destroyed.Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one[ is] an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand[ is] stretched out still.

I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself[ thus]; Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bullock unaccustomed[ to the yoke]: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou[ art] the LORD my God.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,[ thou] that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under[ her] wings, and ye would not!Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, that[ is] the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened.And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending[ them]; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear.They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.
