It has frustrated all efforts; its heavy deposit has not been removed, not even by fire.

But it can’t be cleaned up. Its thick scum has not been removed. Even fire can’t burn it off.

She has wearied herself with toil; its abundant corrosion does not go out of it. Into the fire with its corrosion!

But it’s hopeless; the corruption can’t be cleaned out. So throw it into the fire.

It has frustrated every effort; its thick corrosion will not come off. Into the fire with its corrosion!

Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come on us; yet we have not sought the favor of the Lord our God by turning from our wrongdoing and giving attention to Your truth.So the Lord has kept the disaster in store and brought it on us; for the Lord our God is righteous with respect to all His deeds which He has done, but we have not obeyed His voice.

“ For My people have committed two evils: They have abandoned Me, The fountain of living waters, To carve out for themselves cisterns, Broken cisterns That do not hold water.

Lord, do Your eyes not look for honesty? You have struck them, But they did not weaken; You have consumed them, But they refused to accept discipline. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to repent.

Is it not indeed from the Lord of armies That peoples labor merely for fire, And nations become weary for nothing?

This is what the Lord of armies says:“ The broad wall of Babylon will be completely demolished, And her high gates will be set on fire; So the peoples will labor for nothing, And the nations become exhausted only for fire.”

In your filthiness is outrageous sin. Because I would have cleansed you, Yet you are not clean, You will not be cleansed from your filthiness again Until I have expended My wrath on you.

Where will you be stricken again, As you continue in your rebellion? The entire head is sick And the entire heart is faint.

You have journeyed to the king with oil And increased your perfumes; You have sent your messengers a great distance And made them go down to Sheol.You were tired out by the length of your road, Yet you did not say,‘ It is hopeless!’ You found renewed strength, Therefore you did not faint.

You are wearied with your many counsels; Let now the astrologers, Those who prophesy by the stars, Those who predict by the new moons, Stand up and save you from what will come upon you.

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of mankind was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually.So the Lord was sorry that He had made mankind on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.Then the Lord said,“ I will wipe out mankind whom I have created from the face of the land; mankind, and animals as well, and crawling things, and the birds of the sky. For I am sorry that I have made them.”

Every person is stupid, devoid of knowledge; Every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols, For his cast metal images are deceitful, And there is no breath in them.They are worthless, a work of mockery; At the time of their punishment they will perish.

“ As for the message that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we are not going to listen to you!But we will certainly carry out every word that has proceeded from our mouths, by burning sacrifices to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, just as we ourselves, our forefathers, our kings, and our leaders did in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then we had plenty of food and were well off and saw no misfortune.

The Lord smelled the soothing aroma, and the Lord said to Himself,“ I will never again curse the ground on account of man, for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done.

“ What benefit is a carved image when its maker has carved it, Or a cast metal image, a teacher of falsehood? For its maker trusts in his own handiwork When he fashions speechless idols.Woe to him who says to a piece of wood,‘ Awake!’ To a mute stone,‘ Arise!’ That is your teacher? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, Yet there is no breath at all inside it.

‘ Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:“ Woe to the bloody city, To the pot in which there is rust And whose rust has not gone out of it! Take out of it piece after piece, Without making a choice.
