These things shall be done unto thee, for that thou hast played the harlot after the nations, and because thou art polluted with their idols.

These things will be done to you because you acted like a prostitute with the nations, defiling yourself with their idols.

I will do these[ things] unto thee, because thou hast gone a whoring after the heathen,[ and] because thou art polluted with their idols.

I will do these things to you because you engaged in prostitution with the nations, polluting yourself with their idols.

These things will be done to you, because you have played the prostitute after the nations, and because you are polluted with their idols.

Then when they are exiled among the nations, they will remember me. They will recognize how hurt I am by their unfaithful hearts and lustful eyes that long for their idols. Then at last they will hate themselves for all their detestable sins.

Instead, they mingled among the pagans and adopted their evil customs.They worshiped their idols, which led to their downfall.They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons.They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters. By sacrificing them to the idols of Canaan, they polluted the land with murder.

“ People from many nations will pass by the ruins of this city and say to one another,‘ Why did the Lord destroy such a great city?’And the answer will be,‘ Because they violated their covenant with the Lord their God by worshiping other gods.’”

“ What have you gained by your alliances with Egypt and your covenants with Assyria? What good to you are the streams of the Nile or the waters of the Euphrates River?Your wickedness will bring its own punishment. Your turning from me will shame you. You will see what an evil, bitter thing it is to abandon the Lord your God and not to fear him. I, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, have spoken!“ Long ago I broke the yoke that oppressed you and tore away the chains of your slavery, but still you said,‘ I will not serve you.’ On every hill and under every green tree, you have prostituted yourselves by bowing down to idols.
