亞哈斯差遣了使者去見亞述王提革拉毘列色，說：『我是你的僕人、你的兒子；現在亞蘭王和以色列王起來攻擊我；求你上來拯救我脫離他們的手掌。』亞哈斯將永恆主殿裏和王宮府庫裏所有的金銀都送給亞述王做禮物。亞述王應允了他，就上去攻打大馬色，奪取那城，使它的居民流亡到吉珥，又將利汛殺死。亞哈斯王往大馬色去迎接亞述王提革拉毘列色，看見在大馬色的祭壇；亞哈斯王就把祭壇的樣式和模形照它一切的作法、送到祭司烏利亞那裏。祭司烏利亞就把祭壇築了起來；亞哈斯王從大馬色所送來的怎麼樣，祭司烏利亞都按怎麼樣造，等候亞哈斯王從大馬色回來。王從大馬色回來；把祭壇細看；王走近祭壇前，就上到壇上，去燻他的燔祭和素祭，又澆他的奠祭，並且將他平安祭牲的血潑在祭壇上。他又將永恆主面前的銅祭壇、從殿的前面、從新壇與永恆主的殿之間、搬去放在新壇北邊。亞哈斯王便吩咐祭司烏利亞說：『早晨的燔祭、晚上的素祭、王的燔祭和素祭、國中之民的燔祭素祭和奠祭、都要燻在大祭壇上；燔祭牲所有的血和平安祭牲的血也都要潑在這壇上；只是銅祭壇卻要給我做求問的用處。』

來的是：巴比倫人、迦勒底眾人、比割人、書亞人、哥亞人，同着他們的還有亞述眾人，都是可愛的青年人，做總督做省長的，軍官和戰士，都騎着馬。

那時候亞哈斯王差遣了人去求亞述王幫助他。因為以東人又來攻擊猶大，擄掠了俘虜。非利士人也侵犯了低原和猶大南方的城市，攻取了伯示麥、亞雅崙、基低羅、梭哥和屬梭哥的鄉鎮、亭納和屬亭納的鄉鎮、瑾鎖和屬瑾鎖的鄉鎮，並住在那裏。因為永恆主由於以色列王亞哈斯的緣故使猶大卑微，因為亞哈斯在猶大肆無忌憚，對永恆主大大不忠實。亞述王提革拉毘尼色上到他那裏，卻使他受困迫，並沒有使他得助力。亞哈斯剝取了永恆主殿裏和王宮中跟首領家裏的財物給亞述王，也無濟於事。在急難時候、這位亞哈斯王對永恆主越發不忠實。他向擊敗了他的大馬色神獻祭，說：『因為亞蘭王的神幫助了亞蘭人，我也向他們獻祭，他們好幫助我。』但那些神卻使他和以色列眾人敗亡。
