於是亞哈斯差派使者去見亞述王提革拉．毗列色，說：“我是你的臣僕，你的兒子，求你上來，救我脫離那起來攻擊我的亞蘭王和以色列王的手。”亞哈斯拿耶和華殿裡和王宮寶庫內找到的金子和銀子，送給亞述王作禮物。於是亞述王答應了他。亞述王上去攻打大馬士革，把城攻取，把居民擄到吉珥，又把利汛殺死了。亞哈斯王到大馬士革會見亞述王提革拉．毗列色，看見在大馬士革的祭壇。亞哈斯王就派人把祭壇的圖樣、結構和詳盡的做法送到烏利亞祭司那裡。於是烏利亞祭司按著亞哈斯王從大馬士革送回來的一切指示建造祭壇。在亞哈斯王從大馬士革回來以前，烏利亞祭司就照樣做了。王從大馬士革回來，看見了那祭壇，於是王走到祭壇旁邊，登上臺階，燒他的燔祭和素祭，又澆上他的奠祭，並且把他的平安祭牲的血灑在祭壇上。至於耶和華面前的銅祭壇，他把它從殿前，從新壇與耶和華殿中間移至新壇的北邊。亞哈斯王吩咐烏利亞祭司說：“要在這大祭壇上焚燒早晨的燔祭、黃昏的素祭、王的燔祭牲和素祭、所有國民的燔祭和素祭；也要在壇上澆上他們的奠祭，以及所有燔祭牲和平安祭牲的血。至於銅祭壇，我要用來求問神。”

他們就是巴比倫人、迦勒底人、比割人、書亞人、哥亞人，與他們一起的還有亞述人，他們都是英俊的年輕人，是作總督和省長的，作長官和戰士的，全部都是騎馬的。

可是，因為你還不滿足，又與亞述人行淫；你與他們行淫之後，還是不滿足。

那時，亞哈斯王派人去求亞述王（按照《馬索拉文本》的絕大部分文本，“王”作“諸王”；現參照另一份文本和各古譯本翻譯；參20節和王下16:7）幫助他，因為以東人又來攻打猶大，擄走了許多人。非利士人也侵入了高原和猶大南面的眾城，佔領了伯．示麥、亞雅崙、基低羅、梭哥和屬於梭哥的村莊，亭納和屬於亭納的村莊，瑾瑣和屬於瑾瑣的村莊，並且住在那裡。因為猶大王亞哈斯在猶大放縱邪惡，大大地冒犯了耶和華，所以耶和華使猶大卑微。亞述王提革拉．毘尼色來到他那裡，不但沒有援助他，反倒欺壓他。亞哈斯取了耶和華殿裡和王宮中，以及眾領袖家裡的財寶，給了亞述王，但也無濟於事。這亞哈斯王在急難的時候，竟越發冒犯耶和華。他向擊敗了他的大馬士革的神獻祭，說：“亞蘭王的神幫助了他們，我也向它們獻祭，使它們也幫助我。”它們卻使他和以色列人滅亡。

“阿荷拉嫁了我以後仍行邪淫，戀慕她的愛人，就是亞述的戰士。他們穿著紫色衣服，是作總督和省長的；他們都是英俊的年輕人，是騎著馬的騎兵。
