你且由着我；讓我發烈怒，將他們滅盡；你呢、我要使你成為大國。』摩西便求永恆主他的上帝的情面，說：『永恆主啊，你為甚麼向你的人民發怒呢？這人民是你用大能用大力的手從埃及地領出來的呀！為甚麼讓埃及人議論說：「他領他們出去是要降災禍的，要在山中把他們殺死，將他們從地上滅盡」呢？求你回心轉意，不發烈怒；求你改變心意、不對你人民降災禍。求你懷念你的僕人亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列；你曾指着自己向他們起誓，說：「我必使你們的後裔增多、像天上的星；我必將我所說到的這全地給你們的後裔；他們必永遠承受為產業。」』於是永恆主就改變心意不降災禍，就是他說、要向他人民施行的。

永恆主對我說：『就使有摩西和撒母耳站在我面前來代求，我的心也不向着這人民。從我面前給打發走，叫他們出去！

他們沒有站住去堵擋破口，也沒有為以色列家修造圍牆，使它當永恆主的日子在戰陣上站立得住。

我四下裏瞻望，也沒有人援助；我驚駭詫異沒有人來支持；因此我的膀臂就為我自己行拯救；我的烈怒才支持了我。

亞伯拉罕走近前去，說：『你真地要將義人同惡人一齊掃滅麼？萬一城中有五十個義人呢，你還真地要掃滅，也不為了其中五十個義人的緣故而饒了那地方麼？將義人同惡人一齊殺死，你這樣作麼！絕對不然！讓義人像惡人一樣麼！絕對不然！審判全地的主、難道不行公義麼？』永恆主說：『我若在所多瑪城中見有五十個義人，我就要因他們的緣故而饒了那全地方。』亞伯拉罕回答說：『我雖是塵土爐灰，還敢對主說話。萬一五十個義人缺了五個呢，你還要因為缺了五個就毁滅全城麼？』他說：『我若在那裏見有四十五個，我也不毁滅那城。』亞伯拉罕又對他說：『萬一在那裏只見有四十個呢？』他說：『因這四十個的緣故，我也不這樣作。』亞伯拉罕說：『求主不要發怒，容我再說一句：『假使在那裏只見有三十個呢？』他說：『我若在那裏見有三十個，我也不這樣作。』亞伯拉罕說：『我還敢對主說一句：假使在那裏只見有二十個呢？』他說：『因這二十個的緣故，我也不毁滅。』亞伯拉罕說：『求主不要發怒，容我再說一句：就只這一次：萬一在那裏只見有十個呢？』他說：『因這十個的緣故，我也不毁滅。』
