现在，你且由得我，让我向他们发烈怒，把他们消灭；我要使你成为大国。”摩西就恳求耶和华他的神施恩，说：“耶和华啊，你为什么向你的人民发烈怒呢？这人民是你用大能和全能的手从埃及地领出来的。为什么让埃及人议论，说：‘把他们领出来是出于恶意的，要在山上杀死他们，在地上消灭他们’呢？求你回心转意，不发烈怒；求你改变初衷，不降祸给你的人民。求你记念你的仆人亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各；你曾经指着自己向他们起誓，说：‘我必使你的后裔增多，好像天上的星一样；我必把我应许的这全地赐给你的后裔，他们必永远承受这地作产业。’”于是，耶和华改变初衷，不把他所说的祸降在他的人民身上。

耶和华对我说：“即使摩西和撒母耳站在我面前代求，我的心也不会转向这人民。你把他们从我面前赶走，叫他们出去！

他们没有上去堵塞破口，也没有为以色列家重修墙垣，使它在耶和华的日子，在战争中可以站立得住。

我观看，但没有人帮助；我诧异，因没有人扶持；所以我用自己的膀臂为我施行了拯救，我的烈怒扶持了我，

亚伯拉罕上前说：“你真的要把义人和恶人一同除灭吗？假如城中有五十个义人，你还真的要除灭那地方，不为城里的五十个义人而赦免那地方吗？你绝不会作这样的事：把义人与恶人一同杀死，把义人和恶人一样看待，你绝不会这样！审判全地的主，岂可不行公义吗？”耶和华说：“我若在所多玛城中找到五十个义人，我就因他们的缘故，赦免那地方所有的人。”亚伯拉罕回答，说：“我虽然是灰尘，还大胆地对我主说话。假如这五十个义人中缺少了五个，你会因为缺少了五个就毁灭全城吗？”他说：“我若在那里找到四十五个，我也不会毁灭那城。”亚伯拉罕再问他说：“假如在那里找到四十个呢？”他回答：“我因这四十个的缘故，也不这样作。”亚伯拉罕说：“请我主不要动怒，容我再问：‘假如在那里找到三十个呢？’”他回答：“我若在那里找到三十个，也不这样作。”亚伯拉罕说：“我再大胆地对我主说，假如在那里找到二十个呢？”他回答：“我因这二十个的缘故，也不毁灭那城。”亚伯拉罕说：“请我主不要动怒，容我问这最后的一次，假如在那里找到十个呢？”他回答：“我因这十个的缘故，也不毁灭那城。”
