“ Son of man, say to the land,‘ You are a land that has not been cleansed or rained on in the day of wrath.’

“ Son of man, speak to the land. Tell it,‘ You have not been washed clean with rain. That’s because I am angry with you.’

“ Son of man, say to her, You are a land that is not cleansed or rained upon in the day of indignation.

“ Son of man, give the people of Israel this message: In the day of my indignation, you will be like a polluted land, a land without rain.

“ Son of man, say to her,‘ You are a land that has not been cleansed, that has not received rain in the day of indignation.’

“ Son of man, say to her,‘ You are a land that is not clean or rained on in the day of indignation.’

“ Son of man, say to her:‘ You are a land that is not cleansed or rained on in the day of indignation.’

Son of man, say unto her, Thou art a land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation.

“ Son of man, say to her: You are a land that has not been cleansed, that has not received rain in the day of indignation.

Son of man, say unto her, Thou[ art] the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation.

“ Son of man, say to her:‘ You are a land that receives no rain or showers in the day of my anger.’

Yet the people have not turned to him who struck them, neither have they sought Yahweh of Armies.

She didn’t obey the voice. She didn’t receive correction. She didn’t trust in Yahweh. She didn’t draw near to her God.

“ I have struck your children in vain. They received no correction. Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

In the time of his distress, he trespassed yet more against Yahweh, this same king Ahaz.

The bellows blow fiercely. The lead is consumed in the fire. In vain they go on refining, for the wicked are not plucked away.

Moreover all the chiefs of the priests, and the people, trespassed very greatly after all the abominations of the nations; and they polluted Yahweh’s house which he had made holy in Jerusalem.Yahweh, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place;but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until Yahweh’s wrath arose against his people, until there was no remedy.

O Yahweh, don’t your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.

“‘“ In your filthiness is lewdness. Because I have cleansed you and you weren’t cleansed, you won’t be cleansed from your filthiness any more, until I have caused my wrath toward you to rest.

Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

“ As for the word that you have spoken to us in Yahweh’s name, we will not listen to you.But we will certainly perform every word that has gone out of our mouth, to burn incense to the queen of the sky, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.But since we stopped burning incense to the queen of the sky, and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.“ When we burned incense to the queen of the sky, and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?”
