Son of man, say unto her, Thou art a land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation.

“ Son of man, say to the land,‘ You are a land that has not been cleansed or rained on in the day of wrath.’

Yet the people have not turned unto him that smote them, neither have they sought Jehovah of hosts.

She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in Jehovah; she drew not near to her God.

In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against Jehovah, this same king Ahaz.

The bellows blow fiercely; the lead is consumed of the fire: in vain do they go on refining; for the wicked are not plucked away.

Moreover all the chiefs of the priests, and the people, trespassed very greatly after all the abominations of the nations; and they polluted the house of Jehovah which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.And Jehovah, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling- place:but they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of Jehovah arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

O Jehovah, do not thine eyes look upon truth? thou hast stricken them, but they were not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have cleansed thee and thou wast not cleansed, thou shalt not be cleansed from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my wrath toward thee to rest.

Why will ye be still stricken, that ye revolt more and more? the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.

As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of Jehovah, we will not hearken unto thee.But we will certainly perform every word that is gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink- offerings unto her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.But since we left off burning incense to the queen of heaven, and pouring out drink- offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink- offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink- offerings unto her, without our husbands?
