When they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ you will reply,‘ Because of the report that has come. Every heart will melt with fear and every hand will be limp; everyone will faint and every knee will be wet with urine.’ Pay attention– it is coming and it will happen, declares the sovereign LORD.”

如彼問爾何為太息、必曰、因聞音耗、其事將至、使眾心怯、手疲志餒、膝弱如水、其事將至、其言必成、主耶和華言之矣、○

如彼問爾、何為太息、必曰、因風聞將來之事、眾人喪膽、手疲膝倦、懦弱如水、禍患迫至、主耶和華已言之矣。

如彼問爾曰、緣何嗟嘆、爾則曰、因風聞將來之事、人皆膽怯、手疲心惶、膝弱如水、其事必至必成、此乃主天主所言、○

And when they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ you shall say,‘ Because of the news that is coming. Every heart will melt with fear and every hand go limp; every spirit will become faint and every leg will be wet with urine.’ It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign Lord.”

They will ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ Then you will say,‘ Because of the news that is coming. The hearts of all the people will melt away in fear. Their hands will not be able to help them. Their spirits will grow weak. And they will be so afraid they’ll wet themselves.’ The news is coming! You can be sure those things will happen,” announces the Lord and King.

And when they say to you,‘ Why do you groan?’ you shall say,‘ Because of the news that it is coming. Every heart will melt, and all hands will be feeble; every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it is coming, and it will be fulfilled,’” declares the Lord God.

When they ask why you are groaning, tell them,‘ I groan because of the terrifying news I have heard. When it comes true, the boldest heart will melt with fear; all strength will disappear. Every spirit will faint; strong knees will become as weak as water. And the Sovereign Lord says: It is coming! It’s on its way!’”

And when they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ then say,‘ Because of the news that is coming. Every heart will melt, and every hand will become weak. Every spirit will be discouraged, and all knees will run with urine. Yes, it is coming and it will happen. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.’”

And when they say to you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ you shall say,‘ Because of the news, for it is coming; and every heart will melt, all hands will go limp, every spirit will be disheartened, and all knees will drip with water. Behold, it is coming and it will happen,’ declares the Lord God.”

And it shall be when they say to you,‘ Why are you sighing?’ that you shall answer,‘ Because of the news; when it comes, every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it is coming and shall be brought to pass,’ says the Lord GOD.”

And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt say, Because of the tidings, for it cometh; and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and it shall be done, saith the Lord Jehovah.

And when they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ then say: Because of the news that is coming. Every heart will melt, and every hand will become weak. Every spirit will be discouraged, and every knee will turn to water. Yes, it is coming and it will happen.” This is the declaration of the Lord God.

And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt answer, For the tidings; because it cometh: and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak[ as] water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord GOD.

It shall be, when they ask you,‘ Why do you sigh?’ that you shall say,‘ Because of the news, for it comes! Every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes, and it shall be done, says the Lord Yahweh.’”

All of their hands will hang limp; their knees will be wet with urine.

Disaster after disaster will come, and one rumor after another. They will seek a vision from a prophet; priestly instruction will disappear, along with counsel from the elders.

The king of Babylon will become paralyzed with fear when he hears news of their coming. Anguish will grip him, agony like that of a woman giving birth to a baby.

For this reason all hands hang limp, every human heart loses its courage.

Destruction, devastation, and desolation! Their hearts faint, their knees tremble, each stomach churns, each face turns pale!

Because of this, our hearts are sick; because of these things, we can hardly see through our tears.

“ This is what the LORD says:‘ Beware! An army is coming from a land in the north. A mighty nation is stirring into action in faraway parts of the earth.Its soldiers are armed with bows and spears. They are cruel and show no mercy. They sound like the roaring sea as they ride forth on their horses. Lined up in formation like men going into battle to attack you, Daughter Zion.’”The people cry out,“ We have heard reports about them! We have become helpless with fear! Anguish grips us, agony like that of a woman giving birth to a baby!

For the culmination of all things is near. So be self- controlled and sober- minded for the sake of prayer.

The LORD spoke about Damascus.“ The people of Hamath and Arpad will be dismayed because they have heard bad news. Their courage will melt away because of worry. Their hearts will not be able to rest.

Then I said,“ O sovereign LORD! They are saying of me,‘ Does he not simply speak in eloquent figures of speech?’”

“ You, son of man– this is what the sovereign LORD says to the land of Israel: An end! The end is coming on the four corners of the land!The end is now upon you, and I will release my anger against you; I will judge you according to your behavior, I will hold you accountable for all your abominable practices.My eye will not pity you; I will not spare you. For I will hold you responsible for your behavior, and you will suffer the consequences of your abominable practices. Then you will know that I am the LORD!“ This is what the sovereign LORD says: A disaster– a one-of-a-kind disaster– is coming!An end comes– the end comes! It has awakened against you– the end is upon you! Look, it is coming!Doom is coming upon you who live in the land! The time is coming, the day is near. There are sounds of tumult, not shouts of joy, on the mountains.Soon now I will pour out my rage on you; I will fully vent my anger against you. I will judge you according to your behavior. I will hold you accountable for all your abominable practices.My eye will not pity you; I will not spare you. For your behavior I will hold you accountable, and you will suffer the consequences of your abominable practices. Then you will know that it is I, the LORD, who is striking you.“ Look, the day! Look, it is coming! Doom has gone out! The staff has budded, pride has blossomed!Violence has grown into a staff that supports wickedness. Not one of them will be left– not from their crowd, not from their wealth, not from their prominence.The time has come; the day has struck! The customer should not rejoice, nor the seller mourn; for divine wrath comes against their whole crowd.

“‘ As for the ones who remain among you, I will bring despair into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a blowing leaf will pursue them, and they will flee as one who flees the sword and fall down even though there is no pursuer.

Whenever it sweeps by, it will overtake you; indeed, every morning it will sweep by, it will come through during the day and the night.” When this announcement is understood, it will cause nothing but terror.

Therefore, strengthen your listless hands and your weak knees,

It was reported to the family of David,“ Syria has allied with Ephraim.” They and their people were emotionally shaken, just as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.

People will be fainting from fear and from the expectation of what is coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Then the chiefs of Edom will be terrified, trembling will seize the leaders of Moab, and the inhabitants of Canaan will shake.

If that happens even the bravest soldier– one who is lion-hearted– will virtually melt away. For all Israel knows that your father is a warrior and that those who are with him are brave.

“ Son of man, what is this proverb you have in the land of Israel,‘ The days pass slowly, and every vision fails’?Therefore tell them,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: I hereby end this proverb; they will not recite it in Israel any longer.’ But say to them,‘ The days are at hand when every vision will be fulfilled.For there will no longer be any false visions or flattering omens amidst the house of Israel.For I, the LORD, will speak. Whatever word I speak will be accomplished. It will not be delayed any longer. Indeed in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and accomplish it, declares the sovereign LORD.’”The word of the LORD came to me:“ Take note, son of man, the house of Israel is saying,‘ The vision that he sees is for distant days; he is prophesying about the far future.’Therefore say to them,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: None of my words will be delayed any longer! The word I speak will come to pass, declares the sovereign LORD.’”

Strengthen the hands that have gone limp, steady the knees that shake!

Then the people said to me,“ Will you not tell us what these things you are doing mean for us?”

Then I said,“ There is no cure for my grief! I am sick at heart!

“ Son of man, has not the house of Israel, that rebellious house, said to you,‘ What are you doing?’Say to them,‘ This is what the sovereign LORD says: The prince will raise this burden in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel within it.’Say,‘ I am an object lesson for you. Just as I have done, it will be done to them; they will go into exile and captivity.’

In addition, the officers are to say to the troops,“ Who among you is afraid and fainthearted? He may go home so that he will not make his fellow soldier’s heart as fearful as his own.”

She said to the men,“ I know the LORD is handing this land over to you. We are absolutely terrified of you, and all who live in the land are cringing before you.For we heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you left Egypt and how you annihilated the two Amorite kings, Sihon and Og, on the other side of the Jordan.When we heard the news we lost our courage and no one could even breathe for fear of you. For the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on earth below!

When all the Amorite kings on the west side of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the seacoast heard how the LORD had dried up the water of the Jordan before the Israelites while they crossed, they lost their courage and could not even breathe for fear of the Israelites.

Look, you have instructed many; you have strengthened feeble hands.Your words have supported those who stumbled, and you have strengthened the knees that gave way.

So this is what the LORD God of Israel says,‘ I am about to bring disaster on Jerusalem and Judah. The news will reverberate in the ears of those who hear about it.
