And when they say to you,‘ Why do you groan?’ you shall say,‘ Because of the news that it is coming. Every heart will melt, and all hands will be feeble; every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it is coming, and it will be fulfilled,’” declares the Lord God.

如彼問爾何為太息、必曰、因聞音耗、其事將至、使眾心怯、手疲志餒、膝弱如水、其事將至、其言必成、主耶和華言之矣、○

如彼問爾、何為太息、必曰、因風聞將來之事、眾人喪膽、手疲膝倦、懦弱如水、禍患迫至、主耶和華已言之矣。

如彼問爾曰、緣何嗟嘆、爾則曰、因風聞將來之事、人皆膽怯、手疲心惶、膝弱如水、其事必至必成、此乃主天主所言、○

And when they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ you shall say,‘ Because of the news that is coming. Every heart will melt with fear and every hand go limp; every spirit will become faint and every leg will be wet with urine.’ It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign Lord.”

They will ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ Then you will say,‘ Because of the news that is coming. The hearts of all the people will melt away in fear. Their hands will not be able to help them. Their spirits will grow weak. And they will be so afraid they’ll wet themselves.’ The news is coming! You can be sure those things will happen,” announces the Lord and King.

When they ask why you are groaning, tell them,‘ I groan because of the terrifying news I have heard. When it comes true, the boldest heart will melt with fear; all strength will disappear. Every spirit will faint; strong knees will become as weak as water. And the Sovereign Lord says: It is coming! It’s on its way!’”

And when they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ then say,‘ Because of the news that is coming. Every heart will melt, and every hand will become weak. Every spirit will be discouraged, and all knees will run with urine. Yes, it is coming and it will happen. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.’”

And when they say to you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ you shall say,‘ Because of the news, for it is coming; and every heart will melt, all hands will go limp, every spirit will be disheartened, and all knees will drip with water. Behold, it is coming and it will happen,’ declares the Lord God.”

And it shall be when they say to you,‘ Why are you sighing?’ that you shall answer,‘ Because of the news; when it comes, every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it is coming and shall be brought to pass,’ says the Lord GOD.”

And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt say, Because of the tidings, for it cometh; and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and it shall be done, saith the Lord Jehovah.

And when they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ then say: Because of the news that is coming. Every heart will melt, and every hand will become weak. Every spirit will be discouraged, and every knee will turn to water. Yes, it is coming and it will happen.” This is the declaration of the Lord God.

And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt answer, For the tidings; because it cometh: and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak[ as] water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord GOD.

When they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ you will reply,‘ Because of the report that has come. Every heart will melt with fear and every hand will be limp; everyone will faint and every knee will be wet with urine.’ Pay attention– it is coming and it will happen, declares the sovereign LORD.”

It shall be, when they ask you,‘ Why do you sigh?’ that you shall say,‘ Because of the news, for it comes! Every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes, and it shall be done, says the Lord Yahweh.’”

All hands are feeble, and all knees turn to water.

Disaster comes upon disaster; rumor follows rumor. They seek a vision from the prophet, while the law perishes from the priest and counsel from the elders.

“ The king of Babylon heard the report of them, and his hands fell helpless; anguish seized him, pain as of a woman in labor.

Therefore all hands will be feeble, and every human heart will melt.

Desolate! Desolation and ruin! Hearts melt and knees tremble; anguish is in all loins; all faces grow pale!

For this our heart has become sick, for these things our eyes have grown dim,

Thus says the Lord:“ Behold, a people is coming from the north country, a great nation is stirring from the farthest parts of the earth.They lay hold on bow and javelin; they are cruel and have no mercy; the sound of them is like the roaring sea; they ride on horses, set in array as a man for battle, against you, O daughter of Zion!”We have heard the report of it; our hands fall helpless; anguish has taken hold of us, pain as of a woman in labor.

The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

Concerning Damascus:“ Hamath and Arpad are confounded, for they have heard bad news; they melt in fear, they are troubled like the sea that cannot be quiet.

Then I said,“ Ah, Lord God! They are saying of me,‘ Is he not a maker of parables?’”

“ And you, O son of man, thus says the Lord God to the land of Israel: An end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land.Now the end is upon you, and I will send my anger upon you; I will judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations.And my eye will not spare you, nor will I have pity, but I will punish you for your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. Then you will know that I am the Lord.“ Thus says the Lord God: Disaster after disaster! Behold, it comes.An end has come; the end has come; it has awakened against you. Behold, it comes.Your doom has come to you, O inhabitant of the land. The time has come; the day is near, a day of tumult, and not of joyful shouting on the mountains.Now I will soon pour out my wrath upon you, and spend my anger against you, and judge you according to your ways, and I will punish you for all your abominations.And my eye will not spare, nor will I have pity. I will punish you according to your ways, while your abominations are in your midst. Then you will know that I am the Lord, who strikes.“ Behold, the day! Behold, it comes! Your doom has come; the rod has blossomed; pride has budded.Violence has grown up into a rod of wickedness. None of them shall remain, nor their abundance, nor their wealth; neither shall there be preeminence among them.The time has come; the day has arrived. Let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn, for wrath is upon all their multitude.

And as for those of you who are left, I will send faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a driven leaf shall put them to flight, and they shall flee as one flees from the sword, and they shall fall when none pursues.

As often as it passes through it will take you; for morning by morning it will pass through, by day and by night; and it will be sheer terror to understand the message.

Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees,

When the house of David was told,“ Syria is in league with Ephraim,” the heart of Ahaz and the heart of his people shook as the trees of the forest shake before the wind.

people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed; trembling seizes the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away.

Then even the valiant man, whose heart is like the heart of a lion, will utterly melt with fear, for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man, and that those who are with him are valiant men.

“ Son of man, what is this proverb that you have about the land of Israel, saying,‘ The days grow long, and every vision comes to nothing’?Tell them therefore,‘ Thus says the Lord God: I will put an end to this proverb, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel.’ But say to them, The days are near, and the fulfillment of every vision.For there shall be no more any false vision or flattering divination within the house of Israel.For I am the Lord; I will speak the word that I will speak, and it will be performed. It will no longer be delayed, but in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and perform it, declares the Lord God.”And the word of the Lord came to me:“ Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say,‘ The vision that he sees is for many days from now, and he prophesies of times far off.’Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord God: None of my words will be delayed any longer, but the word that I speak will be performed, declares the Lord God.”

Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.

And the people said to me,“ Will you not tell us what these things mean for us, that you are acting thus?”

My joy is gone; grief is upon me; my heart is sick within me.

“ Son of man, has not the house of Israel, the rebellious house, said to you,‘ What are you doing?’Say to them,‘ Thus says the Lord God: This oracle concerns the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel who are in it.’Say,‘ I am a sign for you: as I have done, so shall it be done to them. They shall go into exile, into captivity.’

And the officers shall speak further to the people, and say,‘ Is there any man who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go back to his house, lest he make the heart of his fellows melt like his own.’

and said to the men,“ I know that the Lord has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you devoted to destruction.And as soon as we heard it, our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for the Lord your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.

As soon as all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan for the people of Israel until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and there was no longer any spirit in them because of the people of Israel.

Behold, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened the weak hands.Your words have upheld him who was stumbling, and you have made firm the feeble knees.

therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing upon Jerusalem and Judah such disaster that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle.
