如彼問爾、何為太息、必曰、因風聞將來之事、眾人喪膽、手疲膝倦、懦弱如水、禍患迫至、主耶和華已言之矣。

如彼問爾曰、緣何嗟嘆、爾則曰、因風聞將來之事、人皆膽怯、手疲心惶、膝弱如水、其事必至必成、此乃主天主所言、○

And when they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ you shall say,‘ Because of the news that is coming. Every heart will melt with fear and every hand go limp; every spirit will become faint and every leg will be wet with urine.’ It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign Lord.”

They will ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ Then you will say,‘ Because of the news that is coming. The hearts of all the people will melt away in fear. Their hands will not be able to help them. Their spirits will grow weak. And they will be so afraid they’ll wet themselves.’ The news is coming! You can be sure those things will happen,” announces the Lord and King.

And when they say to you,‘ Why do you groan?’ you shall say,‘ Because of the news that it is coming. Every heart will melt, and all hands will be feeble; every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it is coming, and it will be fulfilled,’” declares the Lord God.

When they ask why you are groaning, tell them,‘ I groan because of the terrifying news I have heard. When it comes true, the boldest heart will melt with fear; all strength will disappear. Every spirit will faint; strong knees will become as weak as water. And the Sovereign Lord says: It is coming! It’s on its way!’”

And when they say to you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ you shall say,‘ Because of the news, for it is coming; and every heart will melt, all hands will go limp, every spirit will be disheartened, and all knees will drip with water. Behold, it is coming and it will happen,’ declares the Lord God.”

And it shall be when they say to you,‘ Why are you sighing?’ that you shall answer,‘ Because of the news; when it comes, every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it is coming and shall be brought to pass,’ says the Lord GOD.”

And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt say, Because of the tidings, for it cometh; and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and it shall be done, saith the Lord Jehovah.

When they ask you,‘ Why are you groaning?’ you will reply,‘ Because of the report that has come. Every heart will melt with fear and every hand will be limp; everyone will faint and every knee will be wet with urine.’ Pay attention– it is coming and it will happen, declares the sovereign LORD.”

It shall be, when they ask you,‘ Why do you sigh?’ that you shall say,‘ Because of the news, for it comes! Every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes, and it shall be done, says the Lord Yahweh.’”

All their hands will become weak, and all their knees will run with urine.

Disaster after disaster will come, and there will be rumor after rumor. Then they will look for a vision from a prophet, but instruction will perish from the priests and counsel from the elders.

The king of Babylon has heard about them; his hands have become weak. Distress has seized him— pain, like a woman in labor.

Therefore everyone’s hands will become weak, and every man will lose heart.

Desolation, decimation, devastation! Hearts melt, knees tremble, insides churn, every face grows pale!

Because of this, our heart is sick; because of these, our eyes grow dim:

This is what the LORD says: Look, an army is coming from a northern land; a great nation will be stirred up from the remote regions of the earth.They grasp bow and javelin. They are cruel and show no mercy. Their voice roars like the sea, and they ride on horses, lined up like men in battle formation against you, Daughter Zion.We have heard about it, and our hands have become weak. Distress has seized us— pain, like a woman in labor.

The end of all things is near; therefore, be alert and sober-minded for prayer.

Then you will know that I am the LORD.”This is what the Lord GOD says: Look, one disaster after another is coming!An end has come; the end has come! It has awakened against you. Look, it is coming!Doom has come on you, inhabitants of the land. The time has come; the day is near. There will be panic on the mountains and not celebration.I will pour out my wrath on you very soon; I will exhaust my anger against you and judge you according to your ways. I will punish you for all your detestable practices.I will not look on you with pity or spare you. I will punish you for your ways and for your detestable practices within you. Then you will know that it is I, the LORD, who strikes.Here is the day! Here it comes! Doom is on its way. The rod has blossomed; arrogance has bloomed.Violence has grown into a rod of wickedness. None of them will remain: none of that crowd, none of their wealth, and none of the eminent among them.The time has come; the day has arrived. Let the buyer not rejoice and the seller not mourn, for wrath is on her whole crowd.

“ I will put anxiety in the hearts of those of you who survive in the lands of their enemies. The sound of a wind-driven leaf will put them to flight, and they will flee as one flees from a sword, and fall though no one is pursuing them.

Every time it passes through, it will carry you away; it will pass through every morning— every day and every night. Only terror will cause you to understand the message.

Therefore, strengthen your tired hands and weakened knees,

When it became known to the house of David that Aram had occupied Ephraim, the heart of Ahaz and the hearts of his people trembled like trees of a forest shaking in the wind.

People will faint from fear and expectation of the things that are coming on the world, because the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Then the chiefs of Edom will be terrified; trembling will seize the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan will panic;

Then, even a brave man with the heart of a lion will lose heart because all Israel knows that your father and the valiant men with him are warriors.

“ Son of man, what is this proverb you people have about the land of Israel, which goes,‘ The days keep passing by, and every vision fails’?Therefore say to them,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: I will put a stop to this proverb, and they will not use it again in Israel.’ But say to them,‘ The days have arrived, as well as the fulfillment of every vision.For there will no longer be any false vision or flattering divination within the house of Israel.But I, the LORD, will speak whatever message I will speak, and it will be done. It will no longer be delayed. For in your days, rebellious house, I will speak a message and bring it to pass. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.’”The word of the LORD came to me:“ Son of man, notice that the house of Israel is saying,‘ The vision that he sees concerns many years from now; he prophesies about distant times.’Therefore say to them,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: None of my words will be delayed any longer. The message I speak will be fulfilled. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.’”

Strengthen the weak hands, steady the shaking knees!

Then the people asked me,“ Won’t you tell us what these things you are doing mean for us?”

My joy has flown away; grief has settled on me. My heart is sick.

“ Son of man, hasn’t the house of Israel, that rebellious house, asked you,‘ What are you doing?’Say to them,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: This pronouncement concerns the prince in Jerusalem and the whole house of Israel living there.’You are to say,‘ I am a sign for you. Just as I have done, it will be done to them; they will go into exile, into captivity.’

The officers will continue to address the army and say,‘ Is there any man who is afraid or cowardly? Let him leave and return home, so that his brothers won’t lose heart as he did.’

and said to them,“ I know that the LORD has given you this land and that the terror of you has fallen on us, and everyone who lives in the land is panicking because of you.For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings you completely destroyed across the Jordan.When we heard this, we lost heart, and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on earth below.

When all the Amorite kings across the Jordan to the west and all the Canaanite kings near the sea heard how the LORD had dried up the water of the Jordan before the Israelites until they had crossed over, they lost heart and their courage failed because of the Israelites.

Indeed, you have instructed many and have strengthened weak hands.Your words have steadied the one who was stumbling and braced the knees that were buckling.

this is what the LORD God of Israel says:‘ I am about to bring such a disaster on Jerusalem and Judah that everyone who hears about it will shudder.
