And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and encamped against it; and they built forts against it round about.So the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiah.On the ninth day of the fourth month the famine was sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land.Then a breach was made in the city, and all the men of war fled by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden( now the Chaldeans were against the city round about); and the king went by the way of the Arabah.But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah; and they gave judgment upon him.And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him in fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

And he took of the seed royal, and made a covenant with him; he also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land;that the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping his covenant it might stand.But he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? shall he break the covenant, and yet escape?As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.Neither shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company help him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build forts, to cut off many persons.For he hath despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet hath done all these things; he shall not escape.Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, I will even bring it upon his own head.

And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and Babylon the great was remembered in the sight of God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

Wherefore hear the word of Jehovah, ye scoffers, that rule this people that is in Jerusalem:Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us; for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

that say, The time is not near to build houses: this city is the caldron, and we are the flesh.
