It is sharpened to make a sore slaughter; it is furbished that it may glitter: should we then make mirth? it contemneth the rod of my son,[ as] every tree.

其利便於行戮、磨光使若閃電、我儕其可喜樂乎、我子之杖、輕藐諸木、

鋒既利而行殺戮、光華閃爍、孰敢存喜樂之心哉、我民不畏杖箠、必擊以刃、

刃磨利以行殺戮、磨光以能閃爍、我儕豈可喜樂哉、其刃為罰我子民而備、因藐視杖責、

sharpened for the slaughter, polished to flash like lightning!“‘ Shall we rejoice in the scepter of my royal son? The sword despises every such stick.

It is sharpened to kill people. It flashes like lightning.” ’ ” The people say,“ Should we take delight in the scepter of the Lord’ s royal son? The sword looks down on every scepter like this.”

sharpened for slaughter, polished to flash like lightning!( Or shall we rejoice? You have despised the rod, my son, with everything of wood.)

It is sharpened for terrible slaughter and polished to flash like lightning! Now will you laugh? Those far stronger than you have fallen beneath its power!

Sharpened to make a slaughter, Polished to flash like lightning!’ Or shall we rejoice, the rod of My son despising every tree?

The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath.He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill[ the places] with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.

And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.

The posts went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou[ art] my Son; this day have I begotten thee.Ask of me, and I shall give[ thee] the heathen[ for] thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth[ for] thy possession.Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown[ by casting it] to the ground.Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and[ there is] a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and[ there is] none end of[ their] corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

For while[ they be] folden together[ as] thorns, and while they are drunken[ as] drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;That chant to the sound of the viol,[ and] invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because[ they have] no knowledge: and their honourable men[ are] famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst.Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.

The sun[ and] moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went,[ and] at the shining of thy glittering spear.

And in that day did the Lord GOD of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die.And it was revealed in mine ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness,[ and] with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

Harness the horses; and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with[ your] helmets; furbish the spears,[ and] put on the brigandines.

And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
