人子歟、爾欲鞫之乎、鞫之、使知厥祖可惡之事、

人子、爾當責之、使知自昔以來、彼祖所作、我已痛疾。

人子、爾欲責之乎、爾若責之、則使之知其列祖所行可憎之事、

“ Will you judge them? Will you judge them, son of man? Then confront them with the detestable practices of their ancestors

“ Son of man, bring charges against them and condemn them. Make them realize how detestable the sins of their ancestors really were.

The Lord said to me:“ Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Declare to them their abominations.

The Lord said to me:“ Do not pray for the welfare of this people.Though they fast, I will not hear their cry, and though they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”Then I said:“ Ah, Lord God, behold, the prophets say to them,‘ You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’”And the Lord said to me:“ The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, worthless divination, and the deceit of their own minds.

“ You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you.Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered,

“ Therefore do not pray for this people, or lift up a cry or prayer on their behalf, for I will not listen when they call to me in the time of their trouble.

Nevertheless, I must go on my way today and tomorrow and the day following, for it cannot be that a prophet should perish away from Jerusalem.’O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!Behold, your house is forsaken. And I tell you, you will not see me until you say,‘ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

“ Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her abominations,and say, Thus says the Lord God to Jerusalem: Your origin and your birth are of the land of the Canaanites; your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.

Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation.

Then the Lord said to me,“ Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my heart would not turn toward this people. Send them out of my sight, and let them go!

And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard.

But righteous men shall pass judgment on them with the sentence of adulteresses, and with the sentence of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses, and blood is on their hands.”

Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases?

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous,saying,‘ If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’Thus you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell?Therefore I send you prophets and wise men and scribes, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town,so that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah the son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.Truly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.“ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!
