The Lord said to me:“ Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then confront them with their detestable practices, (niv)

Then the Lord said to me,“ Do not pray for the well-being of this people.Although they fast, I will not listen to their cry; though they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Instead, I will destroy them with the sword, famine and plague.”But I said,“ Alas, Sovereign Lord! The prophets keep telling them,‘ You will not see the sword or suffer famine. Indeed, I will give you lasting peace in this place.’”Then the Lord said to me,“ The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds. (niv)

“ You stiff- necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit!Was there ever a prophet your ancestors did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him— (niv)

“ Do not pray for this people or offer any plea or petition for them, because I will not listen when they call to me in the time of their distress. (niv)

In any case, I must press on today and tomorrow and the next day— for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say,‘ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’” (niv)

“ Son of man, confront Jerusalem with her detestable practicesand say,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says to Jerusalem: Your ancestry and birth were in the land of the Canaanites; your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite. (niv)

even if these three men— Noah, Daniel and Job— were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign Lord. (niv)

as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they could save neither son nor daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness. (niv)

“ So do not pray for this people nor offer any plea or petition for them; do not plead with me, for I will not listen to you. (niv)

“ Woe to you, because you build tombs for the prophets, and it was your ancestors who killed them.So you testify that you approve of what your ancestors did; they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs.Because of this, God in his wisdom said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world,from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all. (niv)

Then the Lord said to me:“ Even if Moses and Samuel were to stand before me, my heart would not go out to this people. Send them away from my presence! Let them go! (niv)

“ Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. (niv)

But righteous judges will sentence them to the punishment of women who commit adultery and shed blood, because they are adulterous and blood is on their hands. (niv)

Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? (niv)

“ Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous.And you say,‘ If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.Go ahead, then, and complete what your ancestors started!“ You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.“ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.
