惟以色列家在曠野、悖逆乎我、不循我典章、棄我律例、人若遵行、則緣之得生、且犯我安息日特甚、我則曰、必在曠野、傾我怒以滅之、

然以色列族在曠野、違逆乎我、不遵我禮儀、犯我安息日、浸假有人守我法度、則可保生、惟彼藐視之、故我自謂、必在曠野、震怒斯眾、滅之務盡。

“‘ Yet the people of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not follow my decrees but rejected my laws— by which the person who obeys them will live— and they utterly desecrated my Sabbaths. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and destroy them in the wilderness.

“‘ “But in the desert the people of Israel refused to obey me. They did not follow my rules. They turned their backs on my laws. The person who obeys them will live by them. They totally misused my Sabbath days. So I said I would pour out my great anger on them. I would destroy them in the desert.

They did not walk in my statutes but rejected my rules, by which, if a person does them, he shall live; and my Sabbaths they greatly profaned.“ Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to make a full end of them.

Also in Horeb ye provoked Jehovah to wrath, and Jehovah was angry with you to destroy you.

And Jehovah said unto Moses, How long will this people despise me? and how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have wrought among them?I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a nation greater and mightier than they.

your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, that have murmured against me,

now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.

because all those men that have seen my glory, and my signs, which I wrought in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

And Jehovah said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people that thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.Furthermore Jehovah spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount was burning with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against Jehovah your God; ye had made you a molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which Jehovah had commanded you.And I took hold of the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes.And I fell down before Jehovah, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I did neither eat bread nor drink water; because of all your sin which ye sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger.For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith Jehovah was wroth against you to destroy you. But Jehovah hearkened unto me that time also.And Jehovah was very angry with Aaron to destroy him: and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth- hattaavah, ye provoked Jehovah to wrath.And when Jehovah sent you from Kadesh- barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of Jehovah your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.Ye have been rebellious against Jehovah from the day that I knew you.

Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Judah, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have rejected the law of Jehovah, and have not kept his statutes, and their lies have caused them to err, after which their fathers did walk.

and if ye shall reject my statutes, and if your soul abhor mine ordinances, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant;

Therefore he that rejecteth, rejecteth not man, but God, who giveth his Holy Spirit unto you.

And it came to pass on the seventh day, that there went out some of the people to gather, and they found none.And Jehovah said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

And Jehovah spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.

They soon forgat his works; They waited not for his counsel,But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tempted God in the desert.And he gave them their request, But sent leanness into their soul.They envied Moses also in the camp, And Aaron the saint of Jehovah.The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And covered the company of Abiram.And a fire was kindled in their company; The flame burned up the wicked.They made a calf in Horeb, And worshipped a molten image.Thus they changed their glory For the likeness of an ox that eateth grass.They forgat God their Saviour, Who had done great things in Egypt,Wondrous works in the land of Ham, And terrible things by the Red Sea.Therefore he said that he would destroy them, Had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, To turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.Yea, they despised the pleasant land, They believed not his word,But murmured in their tents, And hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah.Therefore he sware unto them, That he would overthrow them in the wilderness,And that he would overthrow their seed among the nations, And scatter them in the lands.They joined themselves also unto Baal- peor, And ate the sacrifices of the dead.Thus they provoked him to anger with their doings; And the plague brake in upon them.Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment; And so the plague was stayed.And that was reckoned unto him for righteousness, Unto all generations for evermore.They angered him also at the waters of Meribah, So that it went ill with Moses for their sakes;Because they were rebellious against his spirit, And he spake unadvisedly with his lips.

they have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed unto it, and said, These are thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, in that they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

because they rejected mine ordinances, and walked not in my statutes, and profaned my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.

These are the families of Issachar according to those that were numbered of them, threescore and four thousand and three hundred.

For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against Jehovah; and how much more after my death?

Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

A man that hath set at nought Moses’ law dieth without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses:of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

Because he hath despised the word of Jehovah, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man gathering sticks upon the sabbath day.And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.And they put him in ward, because it had not been declared what should be done to him.And Jehovah said unto Moses, The man shall surely be put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him to death with stones; as Jehovah commanded Moses.

The land also shall be left by them, and shall enjoy its sabbaths, while it lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity; because, even because they rejected mine ordinances, and their soul abhorred my statutes.

How oft did they rebel against him in the wilderness, And grieve him in the desert!And they turned again and tempted God, And provoked the Holy One of Israel.

But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their neck, and hearkened not to thy commandments,and refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them, but hardened their neck, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and forsookest them not.Yea, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, This is thy God that brought thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought great provocations;

But they rebelled, and grieved his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and himself fought against them.

Harden not your heart, as at Meribah, As in the day of Massah in the wilderness;When your fathers tempted me, Proved me, and saw my work.Forty years long was I grieved with that generation, And said, It is a people that do err in their heart, And they have not known my ways:Wherefore I sware in my wrath, That they should not enter into my rest.

Whoso despiseth the word bringeth destruction on himself; But he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

Wherefore hast thou despised the word of Jehovah, to do that which is evil in his sight? thou hast smitten Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, And would none of my reproof:
