The best of them is like a brier; the most upright is worse than a hedge of thorns. The day of your watchmen, the day of your punishment, is coming; at this time their panic is here.

“ Now, get ready. Stand up and tell them everything that I command you. Do not be intimidated by them or I will cause you to cower before them.

Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing at all will harm you.

I— I am the one who comforts you. Who are you that you should fear humans who die, or a son of man who is given up like grass?

By faith he left Egypt behind, not being afraid of the king’s anger, for Moses persevered as one who sees him who is invisible.

Look, I have made your face as hard as their faces and your forehead as hard as their foreheads.I have made your forehead like a diamond, harder than flint. Don’t be afraid of them or discouraged by the look on their faces, though they are a rebellious house.”

The angel of the LORD said to Elijah,“ Go down with him. Don’t be afraid of him.” So he got up and went down with him to the king.

For wickedness burns like a fire that consumes thorns and briers and kindles the forest thickets so that they go up in a column of smoke.

Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

not being frightened in any way by your opponents. This is a sign of destruction for them, but of your salvation— and this is from God.

Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent word to King Jeroboam of Israel, saying,“ Amos has conspired against you right here in the house of Israel. The land cannot endure all his words,for Amos has said this:‘ Jeroboam will die by the sword, and Israel will certainly go into exile from its homeland.’”Then Amaziah said to Amos,“ Go away, you seer! Flee to the land of Judah. Earn your living and give your prophecies there,but don’t ever prophesy at Bethel again, for it is the king’s sanctuary and a royal temple.”So Amos answered Amaziah,“ I was not a prophet or the son of a prophet; rather, I was a herdsman, and I took care of sycamore figs.But the LORD took me from following the flock and said to me,‘ Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’”Now hear the word of the LORD. You say: Do not prophesy against Israel; do not preach against the house of Isaac.Therefore, this is what the LORD says: Your wife will be a prostitute in the city, your sons and daughters will fall by the sword, and your land will be divided up with a measuring line. You yourself will die on pagan soil, and Israel will certainly go into exile from its homeland.

When they observed the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed and recognized that they had been with Jesus.

And now, Lord, consider their threats, and grant that your servants may speak your word with all boldness,

As for me, however, I am filled with power by the Spirit of the LORD, with justice and courage, to proclaim to Jacob his rebellion and to Israel his sin.

But all the wicked are like thorns raked aside; they can never be picked up by hand.The man who touches them must be armed with iron and the shaft of a spear. They will be completely burned up on the spot.

Peter and John answered them,“ Whether it’s right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide;

Then locusts came out of the smoke on to the earth, and power was given to them like the power that scorpions have on the earth.They were told not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green plant, or any tree, but only those people who do not have God’s seal on their foreheads.They were not permitted to kill them but were to torment them for five months; their torment is like the torment caused by a scorpion when it stings someone.In those days people will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, but death will flee from them.

Listen to me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my instruction: do not fear disgrace by men, and do not be shattered by their taunts.

All are stubborn rebels spreading slander. They are bronze and iron; all of them are corrupt.
