“ Suppose there is a righteous man who does what is just and right.

“ Suppose there is a godly man who does what is fair and right.

“ If a man is righteous and does what is just and right—

“ Suppose a certain man is righteous and does what is just and right.

“ Suppose a man is righteous and does what is just and right:

“ But if a man is righteous and practices justice and righteousness,

But if a man is just And does what is lawful and right;

But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,

“ Now suppose a man is righteous and does what is just and right:

“ Suppose a man is righteous. He practices what is just and right,

“ But if a man is just, and does that which is lawful and right,

The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior.Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.

To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile;but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirrorand, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it— not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it— they will be blessed in what they do.

“ Not everyone who says to me,‘ Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.Many will say to me on that day,‘ Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’Then I will tell them plainly,‘ I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’“ Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.

“ Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just, so all went well with him.

We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.

Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous.

For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.”

“ Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart;whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others;who despises a vile person but honors those who fear the Lord; who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind;who lends money to the poor without interest; who does not accept a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things will never be shaken.

To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.

And if I say to a wicked person,‘ You will surely die,’ but they then turn away from their sin and do what is just and right—

This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them?Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food.If one of you says to them,“ Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.But someone will say,“ You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that— and shudder.You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.And the scripture was fulfilled that says,“ Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
