He keeps himself from committing sins. He does not charge interest when he lends money to poor people. He does not make money from them. He keeps my laws and obeys my rules. He will not die because of his father’s sin. You can be sure he will live.

But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord,“ Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”

I said to their children in the wilderness,“ Do not follow the statutes of your parents or keep their laws or defile yourselves with their idols.

If a king judges the poor with fairness, his throne will be established forever.

But if you do warn the righteous person not to sin and they do not sin, they will surely live because they took warning, and you will have saved yourself.”

“ Yet you ask,‘ Why does the son not share the guilt of his father?’ Since the son has done what is just and right and has been careful to keep all my decrees, he will surely live.The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.“ But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die.

Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die.

Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty.“ But you ask,‘ How are we to return?’

The servant’s master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.“ But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins. He grabbed him and began to choke him.‘ Pay back what you owe me!’ he demanded.“ His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him,‘ Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.’“ But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt.When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.“ Then the master called the servant in.‘ You wicked servant,’ he said,‘ I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to.Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?’In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.“ This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

“ Therefore say to the Israelites:‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Will you defile yourselves the way your ancestors did and lust after their vile images?

I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger.

Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the Lord your God.’”

then say to them,‘ It is because your ancestors forsook me,’ declares the Lord,‘ and followed other gods and served and worshiped them. They forsook me and did not keep my law.But you have behaved more wickedly than your ancestors. See how all of you are following the stubbornness of your evil hearts instead of obeying me.So I will throw you out of this land into a land neither you nor your ancestors have known, and there you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’

The righteous care about justice for the poor, but the wicked have no such concern.

He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?” declares the Lord.

You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God.

If I tell a righteous person that they will surely live, but then they trust in their righteousness and do evil, none of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered; they will die for the evil they have done.

“ Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous.And you say,‘ If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.Go ahead, then, and complete what your ancestors started!“ You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?

Lord, my strength and my fortress, my refuge in time of distress, to you the nations will come from the ends of the earth and say,“ Our ancestors possessed nothing but false gods, worthless idols that did them no good.

Therefore, Your Majesty, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue.”

But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native- born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things,

He lends at interest and takes a profit. Will such a man live? He will not! Because he has done all these detestable things, he is to be put to death; his blood will be on his own head.

if they give back what they took in pledge for a loan, return what they have stolen, follow the decrees that give life, and do no evil— that person will surely live; they will not die.None of the sins that person has committed will be remembered against them. They have done what is just and right; they will surely live.

Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.
