( though the father has done none of them):“ He eats at the mountain shrines. He defiles his neighbor’s wife.

常在庙宇吃祭偶像之物，玷污别人的妻子，

Suppose he does these things even though his father never did.“ Suppose the son eats at the mountain temples. And he sleeps with another man’s wife.

( though he himself did none of these things), who even eats upon the mountains, defiles his neighbor’s wife,

And that son does all the evil things his father would never do— he worships idols on the mountains, commits adultery,

though the father has done none of them. Indeed, when the son eats at the mountain shrines and defiles his neighbor’s wife,

( though he himself did not do any of these things), that is, he even eats at the mountain shrines, and defiles his neighbor’s wife,

And does none of those duties, But has eaten on the mountains Or defiled his neighbor’s wife;

and that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbor’s wife,

though the father has done none of them. Indeed, when the son eats at the mountain shrines and defiles his neighbor’s wife,

And that doeth not any of those[ duties], but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour’s wife,

( though the father did not do any of them). He eats pagan sacrifices on the mountains, defiles his neighbor’s wife,

or who does not do any of those things, but even has eaten at the mountain shrines, and defiled his neighbor’s wife,

You came back and ate bread and drank water in the place where he told you not to eat or drink. Therefore your body will not be buried in the tomb of your ancestors.’”

“ Not everyone who says to me,‘ Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.Many will say to me on that day,‘ Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’Then I will tell them plainly,‘ I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’“ Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me— put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

But the man of God answered the king,“ Even if you were to give me half your possessions, I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water here.

“ Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.

and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.

“ He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of Israel. He does not defile his neighbor’s wife.

You are my friends if you do what I command.

He does not commit robbery but gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked.

Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

He replied,“ Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.
