“ Say, Thus says the Lord God: Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, so that it withers, so that all its fresh sprouting leaves wither? It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it from its roots.

“ So now the Sovereign Lord asks: Will this vine grow and prosper? No! I will pull it up, roots and all! I will cut off its fruit and let its leaves wither and die. I will pull it up easily without a strong arm or a large army.

“ You are to say,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: Will it flourish? Will he not tear out its roots and strip off its fruit so that it shrivels? All its fresh leaves will wither! Great strength and many people will not be needed to pull it from its roots.

Say,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, so that it withers— so that all its sprouting shoots wither? And neither by great strength nor by many people can it be raised from its roots again.

“ Say,‘ Thus says the Lord GOD:“ Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots, Cut off its fruit, And leave it to wither? All of its spring leaves will wither, And no great power or many people Will be needed to pluck it up by its roots.

耶和華說：「禍哉！這悖逆的兒女。他們同謀，卻不出於我，結盟，卻不出於我的靈，以致罪上加罪。他們沒有尋求我的指示，就起身下埃及去，要倚靠法老的庇護堅固自己，並投在埃及的蔭下。但法老的庇護反成為你們的羞辱；你們投在埃及蔭下，反使你們慚愧。他們的領袖已在瑣安，他們的使臣到了哈內斯。他們必因那無益於他們的民蒙羞；那民並非幫助，也非有益，只帶來羞恥和凌辱。」論尼革夫牲畜的默示。他們將財物馱在驢背上，將寶物馱在駱駝的背脊，經過艱難困苦之地，就是母獅、公獅、毒蛇、飛蛇之地，往那無益於他們的民那裏去。埃及的幫助是徒然的，因此，我稱它為「毫不中用的拉哈伯」。

看哪，葡萄樹雖然栽種了，豈能發旺呢？一經東風擊打，豈不全然枯乾了嗎？它必在生長的苗圃中枯乾了。」

他卻背叛巴比倫王，差派使者前往埃及，要求埃及人給他馬匹和許多人。他豈能亨通呢？這樣做的人豈能逃脫呢？他背了約豈能逃脫呢？主耶和華說：我指着我的永生起誓，他定要死在巴比倫，就是巴比倫王所在之處；因為巴比倫王立他為王，他竟輕看向王所起的誓，背棄王與他所立的約。當敵人建土堆，築堡壘，要殲滅許多人時，法老雖有強大軍隊和大批人馬，在戰場上還是不能幫助他。

『耶和華－以色列的上帝如此說：看哪，我要使你們手中的兵器，就是你們與城外圍困你們的巴比倫王和迦勒底人打仗所用的兵器轉回來，把它們聚集在這城中。我要在怒氣、憤怒和大惱怒中，用伸出來的手和大能的膀臂，親自攻擊你們；又要擊打這城的居民，他們連人帶牲畜都必遭遇大瘟疫而死亡。以後，我要將猶大王西底家和他的臣僕百姓，就是在城內，從瘟疫、刀劍、饑荒中倖存的人，都交在巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒手中，交在仇敵和尋索其命的人手中。巴比倫王必用刀擊殺他們，不顧惜，不同情，不憐憫。這是耶和華說的。』

信上說：「萬軍之耶和華－以色列的上帝對所有被擄的，就是我使他們從耶路撒冷被擄到巴比倫去的人如此說：你們要建造房屋，住在其中；要開墾田園，吃園中所出產的；要娶妻生兒養女，為你們的兒子娶妻，使你們的女兒嫁人，生兒養女。你們要在那裏生養眾多，不可減少。我使你們被擄到的那城，你們要為那城求平安，為那城向耶和華祈求，因為那城得平安，你們也隨着得平安。

萬民哪，任憑你們行惡，終必毀滅；遠方的眾人哪，當側耳而聽！任憑你們束腰，終必毀滅；你們束起腰來，終必毀滅。任憑你們籌算甚麼，終必無效；不管你們講定甚麼，總不成立；因為上帝與我們同在。

巴比倫王要將西底家帶到巴比倫；西底家必住在那裏，直到我懲罰他的時候。你們雖與迦勒底人爭戰，卻不順利。這是耶和華說的。』」

城被攻破，士兵全都在夜間從靠近王的花園、兩城牆中間的門逃跑。迦勒底人正在四圍攻城，王就往亞拉巴逃去。迦勒底的軍隊追趕王，在耶利哥的平原追上他；他的全軍都離開他潰散了。迦勒底人就拿住王，帶他到利比拉的巴比倫王那裏；他們就判他的罪。他們在西底家眼前殺了他的兒女，挖了西底家的眼睛，用銅鏈鎖着他，帶到巴比倫去。

你們即使擊敗與你們爭戰的迦勒底全軍，他們當中剩下受傷的人也必各自從帳棚裏起來，用火焚燒這城。』」

禍哉！那些下埃及求幫助的，他們仰賴馬匹，倚靠甚多的戰車，並倚靠強壯的騎兵，卻不仰望以色列的聖者，也不求問耶和華。其實，耶和華有智慧，他降災禍，並不撤回自己的話，卻要興起攻擊作惡之家，攻擊那幫助人作惡的。埃及人不過是人，並非上帝，他們的馬不過是血肉，並不是靈。耶和華一伸手，那幫助人的必絆跌，受幫助的也必跌倒，都一同滅亡。

摩西說：「你們為何要這樣違背耶和華的指示呢？這事必不能順利。

耶和華如此說：「我必將猶大王西底家和他的眾領袖，以及留在這地耶路撒冷剩餘的人，並住在埃及地的猶大人都交出來，好像那極壞、壞得不能吃的無花果。我必使他們在地上萬國中成為恐懼，成為災禍，在我趕逐他們到的各處成為凌辱、笑柄、譏笑、詛咒的對象。我必使刀劍、饑荒、瘟疫臨到他們，直到他們從我所賜給他們和他們祖先之地滅絕。」
