“ Say to this rebellious people,‘ Do you not know what these things mean?’ Say to them:‘ The king of Babylon went to Jerusalem and carried off her king and her nobles, bringing them back with him to Babylon.

“ These people refuse to obey me. Ask them,‘ Don’t you know what these things mean?’ Tell them,‘ Nebuchadnezzar went to Jerusalem. He was the king of Babylon. He carried off King Jehoiachin and the nobles. He brought them back with him to the city of Babylon.

“ Say now to the rebellious house, Do you not know what these things mean? Tell them, behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took her king and her princes and brought them to him to Babylon.

“ Say to these rebels of Israel: Don’t you understand the meaning of this riddle of the eagles? The king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, took away her king and princes, and brought them to Babylon.

“ Now say to that rebellious house,‘ Don’t you know what these things mean?’ Tell them,‘ The king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, took its king and officials, and brought them back with him to Babylon.

“ Say now to the rebellious house,‘ Do you not know what these things mean?’ Say,‘ Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, took its king and leaders, and brought them to him in Babylon.

“ Say now to the rebellious house:‘ Do you not know what these things mean?’ Tell them,‘ Indeed the king of Babylon went to Jerusalem and took its king and princes, and led them with him to Babylon.

Say now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and brought them to him to Babylon.

“ Say to the rebellious house of Israel:‘ Don’t you know what these things mean?’ Say:‘ See here, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and took her king and her officials prisoner and brought them to himself in Babylon.

“ Say now to the rebellious house,‘ Don’t you know what these things mean?’ Tell them,‘ Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took its king, and its princes, and brought them to him to Babylon.

Then the people asked me,“ Won’t you tell us what these things you are doing mean for us?”

On the fifth day of the month— it was the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s exile—

You are to say: This is what the Lord God says: A great eagle with great wings, long pinions, and full plumage of many colors came to Lebanon and took the top of the cedar.

I have made your forehead like a diamond, harder than flint. Don’t be afraid of them or discouraged by the look on their faces, even though they are a rebellious house.”

“ Are even you still lacking in understanding?” He asked.“ Don’t you realize that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is eliminated?

He said to me:“ Son of man, I am sending you to the Israelites, to the rebellious pagans who have rebelled against Me. The Israelites and their ancestors have transgressed against Me to this day.The children are obstinate and hardhearted. I am sending you to them, and you must say to them,‘ This is what the Lord God says.’Whether they listen or refuse to listen— for they are a rebellious house— they will know that a prophet has been among them.

Why is it you don’t understand that when I told you,‘ Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees,’ it wasn’t about bread?”

“ Have you understood all these things?”“ Yes,” they told Him.

‘ Some of your descendants who come from you will be taken away, and they will become eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”

“ As I live,” says the Lord,“ though you, Coniah son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, were a signet ring on My right hand, I would tear you from it.In fact, I will hand you over to those you dread, who want to take your life, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the Chaldeans.I will hurl you and the mother who gave birth to you into another land, where neither of you were born, and there you will both die.They will never return to the land they long to return to.”Is this man Coniah a despised, shattered pot, a jar no one wants? Why are he and his descendants hurled out and cast into a land they have not known?

Then He said to them:“ Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any of the parables?

But they did not understand this statement; it was concealed from them so that they could not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask Him about it.

so that this will be a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you,‘ What do these stones mean to you?’

“ Son of man, hasn’t the house of Israel, that rebellious house, asked you,‘ What are you doing?’Say to them: This is what the Lord God says: This oracle is about the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel who are living there.You are to say,‘ I am a sign for you. Just as I have done, so it will be done to them; they will go into exile, into captivity.’

On the twenty-fifth day of the twelfth month of the thirty-seventh year of the exile of Judah’s King Jehoiachin, Evil-merodach king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, pardoned King Jehoiachin of Judah and released him from prison.He spoke kindly to him and set his throne above the thrones of the kings who were with him in Babylon.So Jehoiachin changed his prison clothes, and he dined regularly in the presence of the king of Babylon for the rest of his life.As for his allowance, a regular allowance was given to him by the king of Babylon, a portion for each day until the day of his death, for the rest of his life.

Jehoiachin was 18 years old when he became king and reigned three months and 10 days in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight.In the spring Nebuchadnezzar sent for him and brought him to Babylon along with the valuable utensils of the Lord’s temple. Then he made Jehoiachin’s brother Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.

“ And you, son of man, listen to what I tell you: Do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you.”

Listen, heavens, and pay attention, earth, for the Lord has spoken:“ I have raised children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against Me.

When Philip ran up to it, he heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said,“ Do you understand what you’re reading?”

At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched up to Jerusalem, and the city came under siege.Then King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon came to the city while his servants were besieging it.Jehoiachin king of Judah, along with his mother, his servants, his commanders, and his officials, surrendered to the king of Babylon. So the king of Babylon took him captive in the eighth year of his reign.He also carried off from there all the treasures of the Lord’s temple and the treasures of the king’s palace, and he cut into pieces all the gold articles that Solomon king of Israel had made for the Lord’s sanctuary, just as God had predicted.Then he deported all Jerusalem and all the commanders and all the fighting men, 10,000 captives, and all the craftsmen and metalsmiths. Except for the poorest people of the land, no one remained.Nebuchadnezzar deported Jehoiachin to Babylon. Also, he took the king’s mother, the king’s wives, his officials, and the leading men of the land into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon.The king of Babylon also brought captive into Babylon all 7,000 fighting men and 1,000 craftsmen and metalsmiths— all strong and fit for war.

and he said to the Israelites,“ In the future, when your children ask their fathers,‘ What is the meaning of these stones?’

“ When your son asks you in the future,‘ What is the meaning of the decrees, statutes, and ordinances, which the Lord our God has commanded you?’

When your children ask you,‘ What does this ritual mean to you?’
