“ Then I passed by you and saw you, and behold, you were at the time for love; so I spread My garment over you and covered your nakedness. I also swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you so that you became Mine,” declares the Lord God.

主耶和華曰、我過而見汝、若女及笄、我以裾覆爾、締結姻盟、于歸乎我。

主天主曰、我從爾旁經過以觀爾、見爾已長、可以于歸、遂以衣裾覆爾、遮爾赤體、向爾發誓、與爾結盟、俾爾歸於我、

“‘ Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your naked body. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine.

“‘ “Later, I was passing by again. I looked at you. I saw that you were old enough for love. So I married you and took good care of you. I covered your naked body. I made a firm promise to you. I entered into a covenant with you. And you became mine,” announces the Lord and King.

“ When I passed by you again and saw you, behold, you were at the age for love, and I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness; I made my vow to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Lord God, and you became mine.

And when I passed by again, I saw that you were old enough for love. So I wrapped my cloak around you to cover your nakedness and declared my marriage vows. I made a covenant with you, says the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine.

“‘ Then I passed by you and saw you, and you were indeed at the age for love. So I spread the edge of my garment over you and covered your nakedness. I pledged myself to you, entered into a covenant with you— this is the declaration of the Lord GOD— and you became mine.

“ When I passed by you again and looked upon you, indeed your time was the time of love; so I spread My wing over you and covered your nakedness. Yes, I swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you, and you became Mine,” says the Lord God.

Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord Jehovah, and thou becamest mine.

“‘“ Now when I passed by you, and looked at you, behold, your time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over you, and covered your nakedness. Yes, I swore to you, and entered into a covenant with you,” says the Lord Yahweh,“ and you became mine.

So he said,“ Who are you?” And she answered,“ I am Ruth your slave. Now spread your garment over your slave, for you are a redeemer.”

Since you are precious in My sight, Since you are honored and I love you, I will give other people in your place and other nations in exchange for your life.

“ Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, saying,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ I remember regarding you the devotion of your youth, Your love when you were a bride, Your following after Me in the wilderness, Through a land not sown.Israel was holy to the Lord, The first of His harvest. All who ate of it became guilty; Evil came upon them,” declares the Lord.’ ”

‘ You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine;and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”So Moses came and called the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the Lord had commanded him.Then all the people answered together and said,“ All that the Lord has spoken we will do!” And Moses brought back the words of the people to the Lord.

For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for His personal possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.“ The Lord did not make you His beloved nor choose you because you were greater in number than any of the peoples, since you were the fewest of all peoples,but because the Lord loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers, the Lord brought you out by a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them,‘ I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens, and all this land of which I have spoken I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ”

For the Lord your God is a compassionate God; He will not abandon you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant with your fathers which He swore to them.

“ When I passed by you and saw you squirming in your blood, I said to you while you were in your blood,‘ Live!’ Yes, I said to you while you were in your blood,‘ Live!’

For the Lord will not abandon His people on account of His great name, because the Lord has been pleased to make you a people for Himself.

and say to them,‘ This is what the Lord God says:“ On the day when I chose Israel and swore to the descendants of the house of Jacob and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt, when I swore to them, saying, I am the Lord your God,on that day I swore to them, to bring them out from the land of Egypt into a land that I had selected for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all the lands.

Then He said to Moses,“ Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and you shall worship at a distance.Moses alone, however, shall approach the Lord, but they shall not approach, nor shall the people come up with him.”Then Moses came and reported to the people all the words of the Lord and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice and said,“ All the words which the Lord has spoken we will do!”And Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord. Then he got up early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain with twelve memorial stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.And he sent young men of the sons of Israel, and they offered burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as peace offerings to the Lord.Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and the other half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.Then he took the Book of the Covenant and read it as the people listened; and they said,“ All that the Lord has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient!”So Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said,“ Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”

When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.

“ But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, Descendant of Abraham My friend,You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth And called from its remotest parts, And said to you,‘ You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not rejected you.

I will make mention of the mercies of the Lord, and the praises of the Lord, According to all that the Lord has granted us, And the great goodness toward the house of Israel, Which He has granted them according to His compassion And according to the abundance of His mercies.For He said,“ Certainly they are My people, Sons who will not deal falsely.” So He became their Savior.In all their distress He was distressed, And the angel of His presence saved them; In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them, And He lifted them and carried them all the days of old.

On that day I will also make a covenant for them With the animals of the field, The birds of the sky, And the crawling things of the ground. And I will eliminate the bow, the sword, and war from the land, And will let them lie down in safety.I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice, In favor and in compassion,And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. Then you will know the Lord.

The Lord appeared to him long ago, saying,“ I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore I have drawn you out with kindness.

not like the covenant which I made with their fathers on the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord.

And not only that, but there was also Rebekah, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac;for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God’s purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls,it was said to her,“ The older will serve the younger.”Just as it is written:“ Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.”

“ I have loved you,” says the Lord. But you say,“ How have You loved us?”“ Was Esau not Jacob’s brother?” declares the Lord.“ Yet I have loved Jacob;
