我們知道律法所說的話都是對律法之下的人說的，好塞住各人的口，使普世的人都伏在上帝的審判之下。

主啊，你是公義的，但我們猶大人和耶路撒冷的居民，並你所趕到各國的以色列眾人，不論遠近，因為背叛了你，臉上蒙羞，正如今日一樣。耶和華啊，我們和我們的君王、官長、祖先因得罪了你，臉上就都蒙羞。

我保持沉默，閉口不言，因為這一切都是你所做的。

那時，你們必追念自己的惡行和不好的作為，就因你們的罪孽和可憎的事厭惡自己。你們要知道，我這樣做不是為你們。以色列家啊，你們當為自己的行為抱愧蒙羞。這是主耶和華說的。

當你接納你的姊姊和妹妹時，你要追念你所行的，自覺慚愧；並且我要將她們賞給你做女兒，卻不是按着我與你所立的約。

既是這樣，哪裏可誇口呢？沒有可誇的。是藉甚麼法呢？功德嗎？不是！是藉信主之法。

說：「我的上帝啊，我抱愧蒙羞，不敢向你－我的上帝仰面，因為我們的罪孽多到滅頂，我們的罪惡滔天。

這樣，你會對我說：「那麼，他為甚麼還指責人呢？有誰能抗拒他的旨意呢？」你這個人哪，你是誰，竟敢向上帝頂嘴呢？受造之物豈會對造他的說：「你為甚麼把我造成這樣呢？」

罪孽勝了我；至於我們的過犯，你都要赦免。

拯救我們的上帝啊，求你因你名的榮耀幫助我們！為你名的緣故搭救我們，赦免我們的罪。

所以，你這評斷人的人哪，無論你是誰，都無可推諉。你在甚麼事上評斷人，就在甚麼事上定自己的罪。因你這評斷人的，自己所做的卻和別人一樣。

使你與人不同的是誰呢？你所有的有哪一個不是領受的呢？若是領受的，為何自誇，彷彿不是領受的呢？

我們從前也都生活在他們當中，放縱肉體的私慾，隨着肉體和心中的意念去做，和別人一樣，生來就是該受懲罰的人。然而，上帝有豐富的憐憫，因着他愛我們的大愛，竟在我們因過犯而死了的時候，使我們與基督一同活過來－可見你們得救是本乎恩－

人都有自己的罪，活人有甚麼好發怨言的呢？

我們從前也是無知、悖逆、受迷惑，作各樣私慾和宴樂的奴隸，在惡毒、嫉妒中度日，是可恨的，而且彼此相恨。但到了我們救主上帝的恩慈和慈愛顯明的時候，他救了我們，並不是因我們自己所行的義，而是照他的憐憫，藉着重生的洗和聖靈的更新。聖靈就是上帝藉着我們的救主耶穌基督厚厚地澆灌在我們身上的，好讓我們因他的恩得稱為義，可以憑着永生的盼望成為後嗣。

「看哪，我是卑賤的！我用甚麼回答你呢？我只好用手摀住我的口。我說了一次，就不回答；說了兩次，不再說了。」

所以，我們既因信稱義，就藉着我們的主耶穌基督得以與上帝和好。我們又藉着他，因信得以進入現在所站立的這恩典中，並且歡歡喜喜盼望上帝的榮耀。
