Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore.Because she took her whoredom lightly, she polluted the land, committing adultery with stone and tree.Yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah did not return to me with her whole heart, but in pretense, declares the Lord.”And the Lord said to me,“ Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.

Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you take your sisters, both your elder and your younger, and I give them to you as daughters, but not on account of the covenant with you.

Samaria has not committed half your sins. You have committed more abominations than they, and have made your sisters appear righteous by all the abominations that you have committed.

As I live, declares the Lord God, your sister Sodom and her daughters have not done as you and your daughters have done.Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.

“ I will restore their fortunes, both the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters, and the fortunes of Samaria and her daughters, and I will restore your own fortunes in their midst,that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all that you have done, becoming a consolation to them.As for your sisters, Sodom and her daughters shall return to their former state, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former state, and you and your daughters shall return to your former state.Was not your sister Sodom a byword in your mouth in the day of your pride,

And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw that the Jordan Valley was well watered everywhere like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, in the direction of Zoar.( This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)So Lot chose for himself all the Jordan Valley, and Lot journeyed east. Thus they separated from each other.Abram settled in the land of Canaan, while Lot settled among the cities of the valley and moved his tent as far as Sodom.Now the men of Sodom were wicked, great sinners against the Lord.

“ Her sister Oholibah saw this, and she became more corrupt than her sister in her lust and in her whoring, which was worse than that of her sister.

just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;

How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I hand you over, O Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? My heart recoils within me; my compassion grows warm and tender.

Behold, therefore, I stretched out my hand against you and diminished your allotted portion and delivered you to the greed of your enemies, the daughters of the Philistines, who were ashamed of your lewd behavior.

All this is for the transgression of Jacob and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what is the high place of Judah? Is it not Jerusalem?

the whole land burned out with brimstone and salt, nothing sown and nothing growing, where no plant can sprout, an overthrow like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger and wrath—

and her daughters on the mainland shall be killed by the sword. Then they will know that I am the Lord.

For the chastisement of the daughter of my people has been greater than the punishment of Sodom, which was overthrown in a moment, and no hands were wrung for her.

So it was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow when he overthrew the cities in which Lot had lived.

You have gone the way of your sister; therefore I will give her cup into your hand.Thus says the Lord God:“ You shall drink your sister’s cup that is deep and large; you shall be laughed at and held in derision, for it contains much;you will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow. A cup of horror and desolation, the cup of your sister Samaria;

Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela( that is, Zoar) went out, and they joined battle in the Valley of Siddim

Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot— they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building,but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all—so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that symbolically is called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified.

For their vine comes from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah; their grapes are grapes of poison; their clusters are bitter;

Then the Lord said,“ Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave,I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know.”So the men turned from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord.Then Abraham drew near and said,“ Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked?Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it?Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?”And the Lord said,“ If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”Abraham answered and said,“ Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes.Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And he said,“ I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.”Again he spoke to him and said,“ Suppose forty are found there.” He answered,“ For the sake of forty I will not do it.”Then he said,“ Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there.” He answered,“ I will not do it, if I find thirty there.”He said,“ Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.” He answered,“ For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.”Then he said,“ Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered,“ For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.”And the Lord went his way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

But in the prophets of Jerusalem I have seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies; they strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one turns from his evil; all of them have become like Sodom to me, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah.”

If the Lord of hosts had not left us a few survivors, we should have been like Sodom, and become like Gomorrah.Hear the word of the Lord, you rulers of Sodom! Give ear to the teaching of our God, you people of Gomorrah!

Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven.And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.
